Default Combining

Does combining Ninjutsu or Hapkido with any other art, a striking art or some type of other art work ?

That isnt something that would be necessary. They are both complete arts in their own rite. Striking, as well as all the other areas of combat. Well Ninjitsu has the all the cool stuff that daels in poisons and horses and smokebombs N stuff.

You know that part in "Billy Madison" where the announcer listens to Billy talk about the "Dog who lost its way" and the Industrial age.

I feel like the announcer, who feels he just got dumber for listening to Billy. I can't believe people are discussing the merits of Ninja's and TKD grapplers.

Who wins: Ninja or Hapkido? I don't give a shite because I lost just by reading this thread.

Dont be stupid, the ninjitsu guy is a ninja, therefore, he hides on the hapkido guys roof, and when the hapkido guy comes home, he jumps down behind him and chops his head off with the ninja sword, basic ninja practice, if ninjitsu makes you a ninja, the ninja would easily win, cause hed slice off your head from behind you hahaha, in a face to face fight?.... meh doesnt matter, what kinda ninja would choose to fight face to face, BRUHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

Actually, Hapkidos pretty damn good. The ROK Marines train in it and it has its merits. Check out the following link:

http://bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21147

It's on a site that has a large amount of Gracie nutriders and MMA practitioners compared to traditional MAs but the consenus is it's an effective art.

Hapkido is diverging as an art.

There's the more traditional Korean Hapkido which teaches you slowly over many years, getting you to sink money like there's no tomorrow. These schools teach you every aspect of Hapkido, from ki breathing, meditation, the art side plus a little of the martial side. Its easy to develop false confidence in these schools, unless you are training at 110% and have been doing it for 2-3 years, 4 times a week and take it seriously

Then there's modern Hapkido, sometimes taught by Korean instructors who don't belong to any particular organization, but mostly taught by western guys who don't belong to any org.

Most of my experience with Hapkido comes from a traditional school, but I eventually moved on to a more modern one. Its a helluva art that is constantly evolving.

The kicking style is alot like TKD. Striking with the hands is emphasized alot more than in TKD, especially straight punching but some circular rolling strikes are taught. Takedowns are alot like judo and aikido, but the ground work that I learned is alot more primitive than BJJ.

Then there's weapons: Typically you start off with the bong (staff) around brown belt, then move onto the gum (sword) at 1st dan BB, dan gum (short sword) at 2nd dan then you have to be a 3rd dan or higher to move on to the rope, short staffs, fans etc.

The modern guys teach you rope (or chain) and short staff work from much much earlier. Then bring you up to knife stuff once you've been around for a while. They teach you more modern weapons and tend to omit the fan and sword work.

Hm. Asking "which would win, ninjutsu or hapkido" reminds of high school, when the two geekiest kids (I wasn't one of them..I was third geekiest) in the shool got in a fight during lunch.

Man. I had no problem with those guys, they were good enough guys - they just made themselves targets somehow. But watching them go at it, all compassion fell away, and I kind of had to try not to laugh. When they hit each other, neither was hurt. They were falling all over and crap. I only vaguely recall it.

I wonder which was the ninja, "Booger" or "Keebler". Heh.

I think I'll name my kid Ogre.

"Jackson, Ogre..Do we have an Ogre Jackson in class today.."

And then this little 130 pound guy stands up, and squeaks out "present".

Funny.

Fist question for history buffs

First, I don't know that it matters. Ninjas did not fare very well in the early UFCs. And I don't think hapkido even entered any1 in UFC. Neither did shui chiao or yudo. Having said that, Dr. Hatsumi and Master Bong Soo Han seems to be great guys and very respected teachers. My question is this--- does ninjitsu really exist, or is it just hakko-ryu jujitsu dressed up with some weapons and black suits? Another ancient super-man art, Hwarang-do, has been revealed as an offshoot of hapkido, not the same art taught in Korea 1000 years ago. It seems as though everyone wants something mysterious that is going to make them unbeatable. My sense is that if even if such an art exists, no one who looks for it will find it ( tao ist paradox.)

Exclamation Ninjitsu vs hapkido

Fight senario: Ninja appears... Hapkido practioner dies... Ninja disapears into the shadows. You choose who is the winner?

It's been around for many many years, most accurately to about the early 1400s but before then it's tough to say how accurate a lot of the info is. Sufficient to say it's been around for around 600 years at least.

Dr Hatsumi himself has said there is only one ninja, that being him. He also said that although he may be one of the toughest men in the world, every night his wife makes him take out the trash and walk the dogs.
