burmese boxing is very similar to muay thai, so would not be surprised if bando also exhibited some "thai-like" traits.

Im going to learn it. Im only 17, and my dad is friends with this man who knows Bando. He showed me some moves, and well, its freaky. But im now worked up to learn it. Right now, he is only giving me physicall training and refuses to teach me anything until im strong enough. Which is why i may visit the fitness section alot.

Thumbs up Bando

Try posting this question on the FMA forum - some of the people there have a Bando background.

For more info go to http://go.to/stickgrappler and click on the Bando link.

Cool

Bando is very similar to Muay Thai. Much more brutal though. Bando uses techniques like blows to the back of the head that Muay Thai generally does not practice.

Default "Lethawae" ... wow :p

I went to this site, i never even knew there was other styles similar to muay thai... anyways I read something from that site http://go.to/stickgrappler:

"Lethwei also known as Burmese Boxing may well be the most brutal form of kickboxing. In many ways similar to Muay Thai from neighboring Thailand. If Thai Boxing is the science of 8 limbs than Burmese Boxing is the science of 9 limbs due to the allowance of head butts."

Hmmm, they do allow head butts in MT right ? I`m kind of confused now !!!

Its actually considered a style of karate!

Since it follows the same "one punch power" principle, and has some katas and forms (about ten before black belt) but the punches, kicks, footwork are all muay thai related. I have also noticed that katas are largely ignored, and are used only to strengthen foot work and balance. Otherwise, its unused in battle.

We are forbidden to block kicks, believing that if an opponent can kick hard enough, he can break your arms, and no matter how much you condition, thier MUST be a guy with shins strong enough to break even well conditioned fore arms. So, the method to defend against kicks is......very very wierd. I cant do it, but the teacher is very effective at it.

Some of the holds and grappling techniques seem to be strange adaptations of jujitsu and judo. Lots of moves that can cripple. Infact, we are REQUIRED to learn a black belt level of both martial arts, most bando masters do know these two grappling martial arts.
