It was bad design for the joints. Where is BubbaMaker when I need him?
I used 3 rolls of duct tape on him already. I have 3 more rolls but I'm not working on him anymore until I find a better way to make joints. I used shoe laces to tie his legs to his hips and the shoulders. A lot of duct tape seemed to do the trick. The one finished shoulder seemed to work pretty well for americana and omoplata I'm waiting to hear back from a guy on the jiu-jitsu.net forum. Apparantly he knows someone in Maryland that makes grappling dummies and he'll give me some advice.

I have a picture one one that I made when I started Jiu-jitsu. Just took the pic and scanned it. I'll resize tonite to fit the post. Remember though, you can only do the most basic technique with it. Jiu-jitsu plays 2 or 3 moves ahead. But a great thing it will do is when your on your way home from class and you don't want to forget a technique or for that matter all the techs. You covered in class, you can "go through the motions" when you get home. The biggest thing I needed my dummy to do, I couldn't get done. I have trouble getting out of the guard using the "traditional bjj" escapes. But theres still hope for me!

The picture isn't that great. But you take a pair of jeans and stuff it with all of your old clothes. Sew the bottom of the pant legs secure. Sew a longsleve sweatshirt to the pants and stuff it with your old clothes. Sew the arm sleeves at the hands to close it. Stuff a beanine cap and sew it to the sweatshirt for a head. In the picture its dark and hard to see the head, but its there. Mine weighs around 125lbs. or so. Dosen't cost much to make and you can't break it. Eventually you will have to open it up and stuff more clothes in it, pack it in and re-sew it. Put a cheap Judo Gi on it to reinforce the roughness for your training. Remember though, it dosen't fight back!

You know it. Sometimes I take a couple of my old belts and tie it up to my Gung-Fu dummy and I have a full body target that is standing up. It works good for blending stand up with stick fighting in this fashion. If it won't break you'll find a lot of uses. But when you have it sitting in the corner (in the dark) and your wife comes home she will trip a bit until she gets used to it! Heres my Gung-Fu dummy too.
