With the Jr. High antics of the new Charlie's Angel's movie (which I refuse to see by the way )Does anyone else feel that the constant flying through the air, and super duper helicopter kicks, are annoying to watch, and give the uninformed public a ignorant view on what effective MA is? Does anyone watch say a TV program where they are talking about MA, and they have some idiot doing stunt choreography, and giggling how he could take on 8 men, with disgust and annoyment? Sometimes I feel like I want to go to the set, and choke someone out on camera. Just to get the point across. How many of you guys would like to see BJJ, wrestling, judo, ACTUAL muay thai, and such be used in fight choreography? Instead of blocking a punch with "ham acting" and doing some backwards flip into a guy's face, how would you guys like seeing choreography where the guy ducks the punch, throws him backwards with ura nage, pummels him on the ground for a split second, and then spins around to quickly fall into a cross armlock? Do you think the MA movies now are fun, or do you guys think they are annoying as *hit? Ryu

Those old kung fu movies are pretty funny. The moves along with the sounds make me laugh. When someone gets punched or kicked, the "connection" sound was like a sledge hammer hitting a brick wall. Then a few seconds after getting knocked down, the same guy that just got hit, is back up for more!
And the english sub-titles with the actors lips moving a mile a minute in cantonese crack me up. LAP SUP !! Ronnie. _____________________________ A straight arm's still a broken arm - Master JPF |

Ya wanna see me COMB my hair really FAST ????
.....well...ah....THANK YOU.....THANK YOU VERY MUCH !! On another note...... those new Jackie Chan movies are cool. He's a good martial artist (or just a good stunt man?), and a good comedic actor. He beats the SHIT out of himself too often though. I think he's broken almost every bone in his body. Ronnie. ________________________________ A straight arm's still a broken arm - Master JPF |

I agree that Jackie is kind of growing on me ![]() But my pet peeve seems to be these actors who don't know martial arts at all, and just fly around "matrix-style"... I mean the Matrix at least had an excuse....but the other "teeny bopper" stuff gets me riled. That and I think MA fans would LOVE to see real judo or BJJ in a movie don't you think? And I mean actual grappling, flying armbars, triangles, etc. What do you think? Ryu btw, Rockinronnie... ![]() that show will never get old!

actually, one of my favorite fight scenes ,for realism, was in Lethal Weapon 1,at the end.I think it was one of the Gracies that did it .I would love to see more realistic fight scenes,i just think that they dont sell as well as crap like Charlies Angels

Ryu - It would be different for sure to see a flying arm bar, or a triangle done in a martial arts movie, but the spinning back, round house and axe kicks all look so good because of the quickness to them.
Grappling would be difficult for the movie goers to see a particular move, especially the moves done at close proximity, ie; a triangle from the quard; a japanese arm bar from the mount, etc. When the two actors are both in a standing position, there is enough distance between them for a spinning back kick to look more realistic than a BJJ move, IMO. But the flying arm bar from the standing position would look great if executed right. Ronnie. ______________________________ A straight arm's still a broken arm - Master JPF |

Hmmm I think that if done with a little showmanship, and the mentality of "wow, this is new to movies..and it's real!" kind of a thing...people might start paying more attention. If anyone say Kickboxer 4 with Sasha Mitchell, Rigan Machado did some great choreography in there. Just enough of showmanship and reality. The right blend. Hmmm you know in my spare time, I am a novice writer! ![]() (I am currently getting a story copyrighted) Perhaps I can work on something that one day could turn into a film (with good values as well as BJJ of course! )I think MANY martial arts practitioners would frequent films that had actual reality to the fight scenes. I guess we can only wonder until it happens. Take care, Ryu

My best pick for a real fight movie sequence goes to "Once were warriors". The actor, Temeura Morrison is a real fighter; I don't know if the movie went to USA but the guy co-starred also in a awful movie with Pamela Anderson: "Barb Wire".

Ryu:
You are correct, most MA movies suck, and the public laps it up like a dog laps its ass. The Lethal Weapon 1 scene was an exception, and Seagal was okay until his ego-mania ran amok, but in general, Hollywood couldn't care less about martial arts fans. The only silver lining is that Oleg Taktarov, Frank Shamrock, and Bas Rutten are all becoming more involved in the entertainment industry. Hopefully, we will start seeing their influence in a few years. I just had an idea for a cool action movie, in which Oleg and Bas (good friends) play rival gangsters. That would be cool. (heh heh heh)
