I wouldn't go to the ground in a street fight on the concrete because I don't want someone to "Silva Stomp" my face while i'm down there setting anything up. I would only grapple in the street if somebody was alone. Who wants to try to grapple with some angry psycho when he is full power and hasn't spent up his endurance yet? I wouldn't. I would strike to tear someone up before I attempted any grappling on the street. And if you are a damn good striker, you wouldn't need the grappling because most fights stop due to someone taking too much damage and fleeing.

REMEMBER: On the streets, someone could LET you mount them so they could shove a knife into your liver. Even Justin Timberlake could beat you guys if he shoved a knife into your liver. (No direct offense to Justin).

the day you think the other isn't going to kill you is your last, unfortunately. what if he pulls a knife? the enemy is always armed. always. in your town, odds are he won't try to kill you? you are willing to bet on that? you would rather have the option of choosing? if you are IN a fight, your options are gone. know this.

intellectually, you raise good points. practically, it is moot. the attacker always dictates the terms. always. wrong you say?

when was the last time someone was killed by an unknown defender? when was the last time someone was defended and killed?

perhaps this sounds grim. it is. if it sounds fearsome, it should be. combat is nasty dirty and lethal. the percentage of those who have gotten through streetfights without injury is absurdly small.

do not gamble your life (or even come close to suggesting others should do so as well) on any kind of assumptions.
