Post War At The Shore - Severn vs. Stano

War At The Shore
Friday, January 17, 2003
The Tropicana Resort And Casino
Atlantic City, NJ

D. Benjamin Brown Productions presents "War At The Shore" Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts World Championship matches at the Tropicana Casino And Resort in Atlantic City, NJ on Friday, January 17, 2003. "It is appropriate," says Brown, "that the Tropicana host this continuing series since the first sanctioned MMA in NJ were held at the Tropicana in 1999." Since that time, the Tropicana has continued to hold premier kickboxing and MMA events, including the IFC, the UFC and The Lion's Den Mega Fights 1; attracting thousands of fans from all over the world.

Dan "The Beast" Severn meets Pat Stano in the ring for a heavyweight MMA match. As a high school wrestler, Severn was a 2-time national champion. An Arizona State University graduate, Severn began his career in the fight game as a Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestler. The 250-pound Severn entered the UFC in 1994 and was the first Super Fight Champion defeating Ken Shamrock by split decision after a 30 minute fight. A 3rd degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, the 45-year-old MI native has competed in numerous competitions around the world and was an Olympic wrestling alternate in 1984 and 1988. Severn owns his own MMA promotion. The National Champion in Greco Roman, Freestyle and Sambo Wrestling instructs in amateur wrestling and MMA at his school in MI. Severn easily established his place among the best fighters in the world with his awesome competitive fire to be the best. Severn has additional mentionable wins against BJJ specialist Conan Silveria and Bart Vale.

A resident of Cherry Hill, NJ, the 38-year-old Stano was an NCAA National Qualifier with over 250 career wrestling wins. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, the 240-pound Stano, has a 2-1 professional MMA record, where he won his last match by a TKO at 1:15. Stano is a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu and has an impressive 62-4 record in Submission Grappling and Jiu-Jitsu competition, including the 2001 and 2002 Masters World Champion, 2000 Pan American Masters Jiu-Jitsu Champion and 2000 Rickson Gracie Invitational. Stano is also a 3-time Grapplers Quest Champion and 4-time NAGA Champion. Stano trains at Champion Martial Arts in Maple Shade, NJ.

You may recall this fight was to happen on the June 2002 "A Night of Champions" card at The Tropicana, but Severn sustained a muscle injury that night and was forced to bow out of the fight. A major disappointment for Stano, "could it be a joke? Things like this can't happen, but then you realize they do," he thought.

Tickets are available at The Tropicana Box Office and at Ticketmaster.

Am I just not keeping up with the life of Dan Severn or what? When did he become a 3rd degree black belt in jiu-jitsu? I thought he was just a wrestler.

I don't know... but that information can be read on his web site.
