Tai Chi For self defence, and have air waves coming out of your hands with very slow movements or something ? :P I thought Tai Chi was just an exercise for old people to get them relaxed. No Offence to anybody who takes Tai Chi but I doubt anyone here takes Tai Chi as a self defence.

judo uses to many sleeve grabs, and it sounds more like a sport.

I know a priest that takes taichi for self-defence. I'm not sure what style it is but he is a pretty good fighter when you consider that he is still a novice. Of course you don't have energy waves coming out of your hands and taichi people, real ones, when fighting, are very fast. I don't think you know anything about taichi kh_s so don't try giving advise about it, please, for the sake of others.

Sry but still and I didn`t give advice. I just gave an opinion with no proof It`s like putting down TKD when you haven`t met a "REAL" TKD fighter.

Siegfried, sry to put down Tai Chi but do you have any video clips of how they fight, "Real Ones" ? I want to see them "fight fast". It gets my attention when I hear about how people fight.

I'll try to look for some kh_s. But I'm serious the ones that practice taichi for selfdefence are very fast and they practice chin na(siezing, controling) as well and have a pretty well rounded self defence method. I'll try to video tape my upcoming fight with a "taichi" priest, if he will agree to fighting me and video taping his ass kicking.

I don't know anything much about tai chi, but way back when I did isshinryu karate my instructor told me just a little bit about it. I think they do a lot of internal striking don't they?

Enough said.

Pai Lum is phukking bullshit.

I think the best combination is Jiu Jitsu, boxing and wrestling, in that order of importance.

However, of those three, Judo is DEFINATELY the best.

if your looking for a quick fix to a problem then judo and a srtriking art are probley best, if you are looking to be a real good fighter after some years and continue to be into old age then i would go for BaGua Chang, hsing I Chuan, or tai chi chuan, all are chinese internal arts and are very good for self defence but take a number of years to achieve profficiancy.

Hsing I chuan will get you there quickest.

Tai chi will get you there with better health.

Ba gua will get you there with some major fight skills and health benefits.

If you would like to see Ba gua in action go to www.energyart.com and look in the ba gua section under fighting. there is a movie there of kumar taking unrehearsed attacks.

He has taken challanges from most styles of martial arts which kinda shows what ba gua is made of.

I have his Yang Tai Chi fighting video and he takes unrehearsed attacks throughout and embarrises tw Tae Kwon do instructors!!

one thing you may find a problem is finding an instructor capable of getting you there, they are few and far between.

Jiu Jitsu and wing chun are the two i want to learn.

Given Jiu Jitsu will give you realistic grappling and joint locks and wing chun will be like boxing but teaches you the attack/defend at the same time (something bruce liked) plus basic footwork and low and mid kicks.

Well, my friend said he liked Wing Chun and my dad likes Jiu Jitsu (from his life experiences).
