Default Judo belt tests

I think when I go to my Judo class on Wed., I'm going to be testing for my yellow belt. I know a yellow belt is not a big deal, I'm just wondering what to expect.
Anyone else here been threw a Judo belt test before? What can I expect? I was told that I didn't have to know very much.

Has anyone ever seen someone fail a Judo belt test (especially for a lower belt like yellow)?

I am trying to figure out why your instructor has not told you or prepared you for what the tests will be.

I'm surprised that your instructor didn't let you in on what you would be expected to do, but I'll try to help out. Expect to show some basic throws, falls, rolls, etc. Also, don't be surprised if you are not expected to win at randori. Hope I helped.

Hmm that is very stupid of your instructor to not tell you of what is going to be in the grading. Im currently green belt and I can tell you yellow belt is piss easy. Teaches the basic throws which Include:
Tai Otoshi (body Drop)
O Goshi (Major Hip throw)
Ippon Seionage (One arm shoulder throw)
Morotoe Seionage (two arm shoulder throw
O soto Gari (Major outer Reaping)

Then the major hold downs. Which include
Kesa Gatame (Scarf Hold)
Yoko Shiho Gatamae (side fourquarters hold)
Kami Shiho Gatamae (upper fourquarters hold)
Kata Gatamae (shoulder hold)
Kuzure Kami Shiho Gatamae (broken upper fourquarter hold)
Kuzure Yoko Shiho Gatamae (bropken side fourquarter hold)
Ude Hishigi Juji Gatamae (crossbody armlock)

Also some basic self defense to bearhugs and stuff.
Also Ukemi (breakfalls) left, right, front, back.
Also some dojo ettiquette like bowing, and some terms that you should remeber like Kuzushi breaking balance, Taisabaki body turning and so on.

You dont have to worry about doing your techniques with both left and right in yellow belt but when you go for orange make sure you know them well, and once You get to green its in to the Kata *shivers*

I think thats all the techniques I maybe miussing some but im pretty sure thats all.
Good luck and dont treat it like its going to be real easy and stuff still put maximum energy into your techniques and remember good technique.

Your Instructor should have given you a sheet with the throws on it that you have to learn. The sheet covers all the terms, throws, hold downs and some basic self defense. Your instructor sounds slack and could cost you your grading if you dont know it correctly.

Good luck man and post back here to let me know if you got your grading or not.

Thankyou
Scott

Actually my instructor is supposed to be the top Judoka in Kansas. Maybe I misunderstood them when they were talking about testing. Maybe Wed. I'll just be getting a sheet with the requirements and not doing the actual test.

Scott, what's this talk of Kata?

Well you dont have to worry about kata until you get to green belt, where u have to the first set of Nage no Kata.
Most Sensei dont believe in Kata in Judo, but they still like to see it done properley.
The first set from memory is Uki O toshi, Ippon Seionage and Kata guruma I think. For Blue you must know first two sets.
