Thumbs up your opinion of the greatest fighters of all time

This forum is dedicated to all the hard working fighters out there. Who may or may not be getting the recognition they deserve. Do not feel limited to just one type of art (ex. boxing, wrestling, mma, bjj...), or one type of fighter. Name as many fighters as you want to give credit.

Muhammad Ali (boxer)
Royce Gracie (bjj)
Frank/Ken Shammrock (mma)
Dan Severen(wrestling)
Kevin Randleman(wrestling)
Sakurabi(mma)
Carlos Newton(mma)

Tank Abbot!!!! just kidding. That is a hard question. Its funny thought that you have Royce and Sakuraba on the same list though, since Sakuraba punked Royce out.

Default Let's not forget...

Hey,

This is the kind of thread I'd usually stay away from. lol

I am just going to address the ones you listed:

Ali was one of the greatest, but Marciano, Lewis, and Frazier should not be discounted either.
(Let's not forget the non-heavy weights.)

I am not even sure Royce would make the top BJJ list. Isn't Rickson suppsed to be much better?
As for BJJ goes, my understanding is that Rigan Machado would destroy Royce. They are on two different levels.

I respect your opinion but you must also understand that all the people you have listed are relatively the most recent.
Wrestling is a great example of that- If you went through the list of great wrestlers in the past 90 years, there would be some incredible wrestlers whom you could not leave off that list.

Lastly, let's not forget Mr. Miagi.... ;-)

Default ok ???

"Its funny thought that you have Royce and Sakuraba on the same list though, since Sakuraba punked Royce out."

umm did you even see the fight? how can you say fighting for 1 1/2 hours is being punked out in anyway? also you do know that sak fractured royce's femur right.. granted SAK definately beat royce but i would not say PUNKED OUT.. there isn't anyone here that would probably last an hour and a half with either one.

"I am not even sure Royce would make the top BJJ list"

he definately should be on here.

". Isn't Rickson suppsed to be much better?"

yes very much better..

"As for BJJ goes, my understanding is that Rigan Machado would destroy Royce. They are on two different levels."

they are cousins. in most fights the gracies including royce have beaten the muchados. not all but most.. ofcourse this is not NHB fights just BJJ.

also in boxing i would add tyson(young tyson.. not todays) you have to admit in his prime he was the man.

It's funny that Tank Abbot's name came up. I mean not to be crude to any fans of Tank, but he has more losses then wins; I think. Then he was thrown out for being a "bad boy" of the UFC, a title that Tito Ortiz lays claim too. He has good punching power, but with his stomach being so big; he lacked stamina. I thought he made a very entertaining WCW wrestler though lol. To address Bruce_Fan, I did leave off a lot of great fighters. Like as your name (I'm assuming) Bruce Lee, Roy Jones Jr., and who can forget mr. Miagi . But I would be here all day naming all the greats. Those were all the names that popped in my head right then. Even though Royce lost to Sakuraba (forgive the incorrect spelling on the first post), Royce is still a good fighter. His grandfather, or father invented BJJ..so he should be on the list somewhere. I'm not saying no. 1 but somewhere. Sakuraba is the man! I believe he beat all the Gracies LOL. Even when Renzo came in with a fake injury, car accident yea whatever. He knew he was going to lose. But that's a whole nother thread. All that was to say, there are many great fighters. It was not intended to be a disrespectful act, but I just want to hear some of you all's greatest fighters of all time! That way we converse on it, positive or negative criticism. I hope this is the most active forum in all defend.net's history. Ok, back to reality; got away there but anyway share more great fighters!

I have one for you. How about Tongpo? You know, Tongpo from "Kickboxer". He was awesome in the first one, and then he went down hill.

ANDY HUG!!! "The Blue Eyed Samurai" IMO the best fighter to ever compete in the K-1.

Kimura-best Judoka ever!

Benny Urqidez-one of the best kickboxers ever

Yea Peter Aerts is a good fighter. I don't know if you played the playstation version of K-1 arena fighters, but the likeness is uncanny. I'm still pondering how Sam Greeco made it though. That's just my personal sintiments, though. I thought Jerome Le Banner should have been a little better.

Out of the two, which one would you say is better? Ralph from the karate kid movies or Tongpo of the movie kickboxer?
