A friend and I were having a conversation the other day on the different styles of Kung Fu. He insists that there is a "Drunken Monkey" style, but I have only heard of the "Monkey" style. Anyone know anything about this?

Actually, there IS a drunken monkey style... A while back I bought such a book explaining its origin and applications in China. I no longer have the book but I do recall that the story is about a monkey who visits the heavenly garden then gets drunk and runs amuck... Hence, the drunken monkey style is derived from this story.
The irony is that 2 years ago I ran into a guy who knew drunken monkey. We talked for hours and he showed me some techniques... After that we sparred and I just choked him in the rear gaurd. His defense wasn't great either as he couldn't block any of my kicks. In all honesty, drunken kung-fu isn't too realistic... especially if you have to act drunk when you're not, just to practice it. And then when you are drunk, your vision becomes poor, energy is low and just become sluggish... So you see the complications.

Yes that story that Great Sage mentioned is true as I have heard that before as well. I watched this program on discovery channel talking about the animal forms in Kung-Fu and drunken monkey was on it. So yes there is a drunken monkey style.

Paul Vunak et al. teach an unsupported headbutt that comes from drunken monkey. I don't know much about the rest of the style, but the headbutt is pretty cool.
The Chinese novel that features teh Monkey King is called Journey to the West.
