K, this is a subject that i didnt know where would be a more appropriate forum to post it in so bear with me if im in the wrong place. I dont believe that these are tactics that should be used in street fighting at all. I know, i know what you are thinking " if it works then why not?" Well here is why..... I would hope that all serious martial artists would keep up to date on the laws of self defense in your particular state here in the USA. For the most part of the country if you look at what you can legally do to defend yourself then you may be surprised at what you find. I have found that particularly in my state, that you may only use basically the same amount of force used against yourself. For instance, a punch for a punch, a kick for a kick, and so on. If you are defending yourself and you bite on somones face, ear, nose or whatever that is called mayhem as far as the law is concerned. Also fish hooking someones eye ball out of the socket is also considered mayhem. These are very serious crimes and have some serious jail time attached to them. I have no problem with beating someone into submission in self defense and even going to the extent of arm locks and leg locks that may end in the breaking of bones, however for some reason the laws of mayhem take the whole thing to another level where in these liberal courts nowadays you will be viewed as the agressor in those types of situations. Just a thought. I know its all relative and if you can prove or show that your life was in imminent danger then those types of tactics can be used. But does anyone else agree with me that these types of tactics need to be used sparingly?

Me personally (and this is just my view) If I am in a fight I just wouldnt try to do something like that cause you can cause the other person serious damage, I would just try to submission the person or cause damage where it hurts the most so he would stop atacking me, But.... if it is a fight for your life not some school fight or just a fight between friends and you are in a tight situation I guess using these methods to save your own life is jsutifieble

In a REAL fight, my strategy is to end the confrontation as quickly and effectively as possible... If this involves biting, eye gouching and bone-breaking tactics so be it. I'm not suggesting that you rip a guys' eyeballs out, but just enough to serve a purpose.

I understand that completely. And if you dont get caught then more power to you. But what i am saying is that you may be in for the punishment of your life if you do. I read that in some states, you are required to run away from the situation before you are allowed to defend yourself. Dont ask me, but thats liberal thinkin. There are some crazy laws out there and in this sue happy culture we live in, better safe then sorry.

Hahaha... JIMI, I'm afraid you're right... I'm just hoping I can make it to the bushes. Where I live, legal force must be equal to offending force... so you are correct.

To paraphrase Marc "Animal" McYoung, "It's better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by six, but don't forget about the other six dudes who will be raping you in the prison shower".

for christ sake we are animals by instinct. and our first instinct is to survive in any form of life. so if someone is attacking you, you dont know what his intentions are. you dont know what kind of fighter he is what he is capable of doing, if he intends to kill you hurt you break bones scalp you kill your family and rape your daughter etc. so why question good mural ethics in a fight? hmmmm. cripple the poor badstard as soon and as fast as humanly possible for he might be intending to do the same to you. if you wait to find out it might be too late...
