In redaurds to the last reply I agree that unarmed combat was a secondary art and most of true TJJ was based off the sword in some way shape or form. The influence of kenpo is often argued againt but I have studied karate and a little kenpo and It is easy to see how they mixed.
The only thing that bothers me about alot off so called tradionalist is that they speak of peace and mercy as being the foundation for bushido. I disagree. the samurai where soldiers trained to kill and die at there daimyo's whim. Bushido is the way of the warrior not the way of love makeing. and Samurai where not nice people
