Question First timer

Hi everyone. I've always wanted to study martial arts but I don't know exactly what to practice. My friend recommends that I take Kempo. I want something that makes me a good fighter in an emergency (defending friend, family ect.). I have a big body frame and good muscle mass. Anyone recommend a certain type of martial arts. Thanks. Ja ne (see ya)

take what you want and what you think is a good school and what is a good style.

one time while i was in karate we had a guest that was from kempo. by the end of his lesson the people i did karate with where like "these moves are to many and to fast they prolly wont work in a real life situation. kind of ironic isn't it.

but then again i have never tooken the art so i can't really judge it.

ok look for a MA school and as for a trailtraining, meaning ask if you can train once or twice paying for the individual lessons
If the school doesn't allow that go to the next
Also if you have to sign for a longer period(year) go to another
but if your main objective is to defend yourself and friends and family against attackers buy a weapon it easier and faster than training for a year

We could list almost every possible martial art here because there is no superiour martial art

I agree. most schools will allow you to take some lessons free usually between 2 lessons to 1 week. I have even seen schools that have 30 days and if you don't like it they will give your money back.

Some instructors I know have the money back deal but those are few and far between.

Go take the lessons at several schools in your area.

Find the one you think is the best and has people you would be willing to train with.

I've been to a few schools were I just didn't like the people training there but the instructor was decent.

I've also trained with lessor instructors because I liked the people I got to train with.

You do have to be careful about sacrificing quality instructor for quality training partners. I was lucky to have quality training first and so that my core was sound and then change schools.
