What's the name of this martial art?

I was watching the Discovery channel the other day and they had a special on martial arts. They showed one which is based in some midwest state (or southern state) in the U.S. It was a whole bunch of people gathering around and beating the shyt outta each other without wearing any protection gear. The concept was that one person stands still without any defense while he/she gets kicked/punched to the throat, groin, chest, etc etc (no protective gear and no defensive stance).

For the black test, there are five different stations where you stand still and your classmates do such things as:
    - five of them punch you to the throat at the same time.
    - you get kicked in the stomach a few times
    - you get punched in the chest while you are all open.
    - you get to be in a rear choke for a specified amount of time
    - you do all this blindfolded.

The idea of this art is that if you can handle all this, you can handle anything (non-weapon) on the streets. I just wished I remembered the name of this art.

Wasn't that Combat Ki which they used?

It's a Chinese style from the Fyu King Province. Commonly translated as Fyu King Madness.

OK...I will be able to get beaten up from every conceivable angle and with every technique imaginable if I study this formidable form of massochism? I just can't wait to start

I always thought it was a bad idea for pacifists to get involved in the martial arts, but now I know I was right.

I looked into it, it's called combat ki. Interesting mentality.

    What's "ki" anyways?

I mean, I've seen it on TV (not the movies, but like .. documentary), and it's supposed to prevent you from getting hurt from certain kinds of blows. But how does KI actually work? I'm sure it's not just air.. =)

Do they get the whips, chains and gimp outfits out after? It all sounds very dodgy to me!

I always thought the purpose of martial arts was self-protection and minimising injury?

They might as well kick you in the balls as well for completeness!

Swan, they DO kick you in the balls as a part of the black belt test. No kidding!

I saw that same special (Discovery's Top 10 Martial Arts). The art was called Jako Kai or something similar to that...someone developed it during WWII...all the demos were against a single strike and had minutes of meditation/concentration beforehand. I wonder why they didn't demo it's effectiveness against some combinations or multiple knees in the clinch...(rhetorical question)...if it is effective as such, sign me up.

Oh, and I think they did kick each other in the family jewels

Just did a search on Yahoo...it's Juko Kai, not Jako. My bad...

Dude I saw that same Documentry. Just the very end of it. Nasty, but cool to watch. They can take a punch but can they fight? I think you have to be crazy to do that stuff. I wonder what they pay in liability insurance?

I was wondering when they were going to do nipple clamps, and the butt plugs. Guess we just have to wait for comat ki II ( the directors cut).
    The law of tyranny:

    1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
    2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
    3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

Do they actually learn to fight back in this style then? It sound a bit shit if you can't learn to break some eggs as well!

The nipple clamps are part of the "weapons" training! It will be released on DVD (with multiple camera angles)!

Speaking of getting kicked in the family jewels, I've got a kung fu book that has a section that tells you how to "suck" your testicles in so you won't feel any pain when you get kicked.

Has anyone got this book? Its called, "Kung Fu - Philosophy and Practice" I think. Can anyone actually do it? If you can, then let me know so I can start practicing now!

With ki-type guys I would seek to disrupt their concentration. Spit in their face, slap their face, poke their eyes, hit their ears, etc. Then you conduct a study. Can their ki protect their eardrum from a concussive blow? How about their medial collateral ligament?

In any case, once you have disrupted their concentration I suspect they would be in deep dookey.

Homer Simpson demonstrated his Juko Kai in his boxing debut, remember? By answering yes you are a true fan of the show.
