![]() | There's plenty of things you can do when getting stacked with your opponent in your guard. Try grabbing one of his wrists and using your other hand to spin under him, using his legs to help twist around. This was taught to me as a way to take someone down when they stack you up after you have them in an armbar, but it works as a takedown as well. I'm not sure what sweeps and trips will work if you're really stacked, but I think the monkey roll and the push up sweep would work. Maybe also the star sweep. There is another one that should work but I can't remember the name of it. It was in the BJJ Theory and Technique book. If you have the cash, you should get that book. It was a very odd sweep where you rolled backwards holding your opponents arms, without using your feet to lift him.

![]() | I know a 'stacking' escape, but it is kinda complicated and takes some practice, and it is best to pull it off just as the opponents weight comes down - not just after he really gets you crunched. Here goes: (1) From the guard, insert your hand (say right hand for this example) inside his right thigh, palm in. (2) grab his left lapel (or tricep if kimono-less) with your left hand. (3) using your right hand against the inside of his thigh, pull and rotate your whole body (opening your guard now) until your head is against the outside of his right thigh. Note that you are now more than perpendicular to his body. Your right shoulder is almost under his belly, your right calf is in his armpit and you left leg is over his head. (4) If you are far enough under your opponent you should be able to lift with your right hand (under his right thigh), push with your right calf (under his right armpit) and using your other two limbs for counter balance... loft your opponent over your body in a forward somersault. (5) The momentum will allow you to follow him over and directly into top mount. The technique only works if his weight is forward (as it will be if he is trying to stack you), and if you get far enough under him. I hope you can visualize this, maybe with a partner...
