Default Karate-do which style?

I´m beig thinking about starting karate and when searched for a club near by me I found a lot of places with different styles. There are for example wado-ryu, shotokan and kyukushikai schools. Whicjh of them should I enter. I´m looking for a style that concentrates on higher stances and has a wide variety techniques.
Any ideas??

Wado has the more higher up stances, Kyokushin is the more hardcore style

SEEKER, keep on seeking mate !

You need to find something new to seek(NEW-SEEKER) !

Karate is ok if you dont like self-defence !

But dont go down the slippery slope,
Unless you have a shortage of pretty coloured belts for your trousers !

So "seek-and-destroy" any notions of karate !

You can lead a horse to water........

combined with the thaiboxing and boxingtraining karate aint too bad
saying that karate is crap while there are so many different styles is like saying that beer is crap just because Budweiser light tastes like catpee

Wado would fit your aikido background best, kyokushin will be mosy compatible to the thaiboxing, it's fullcontact karate

As for the Shotokan..... it is one of the reasons why some people react like Choke

Believe in a one puch kill?
ending a form at the same spot as you start it even when it actually can't(tekki shodan)
stress on use of hip to generate power even though the deep zenkutsu dachi locks your him for the most part
Need I go on? Don't forget he asked for the higher up stances and that makes Shotokan a nono

Hi Toudiyama,

Is there somewhere on the net i can go to read about shotokan deficiencies? I don't want to inconvienience you or hijack this thread, but my younger brother studies shotokan so that's why i asked I've never studied karate so don't know much about it, always been a kungfu man myself, hehe.

Dude I have lots of experience when it comes to Karate. I’ve taken many styles. Wado, shito, uechi are the main ones. My favorite is wado! Good philosophies lots of throws and good blocking/counters. Many more reasons that I don’t have time to write right now.

However I would not go by style. What do you want out of it? What do you want to contribute to it? I would find the best teacher and go with him/her and not be too particular about style. Example if you want to compete. Then find the school that has the most champs and is competition oriented. If self defense find one that’s self defense oriented. Be careful here. Make sure their reality based and do near full speed drills.
Deferent instructors conduct classes and emphasize things differently. It’s not necessarily about the style. It’s what fits you and what your goals are.

Look around visit and talk to the instructors (remember they want to sell you a membership, be aware). Watch some classes then decide. Don’t join the first school in the yellow pages or the first dojo you come too. Do research. You will be sorry if you don’t.

That said my true love is Muay Thai!

Maybe I´ll start wado, because that seems like more "soft" than the other styles. Kyokushinkai could be interesting too, but I think I get my share of full-contact sparring and that stuff in the Muaythai training.

Pseudo:

I think more in contradictitons, ask your brother to do a proper zenkutsudachi(believe a bowstance in kungfu) now look at the hips, they are being locked, now how does one rime that with the focus on using the hip to generate power

If you can find a picture of Tekki shodan Kata you will see that you cannot end at the excact starting point(more steps to right) and still they do

lareg technique small technique (O waza ko waza) principle isn't a shortcomming if people would stick to it but they don't (for that search for Kase and look at his deep stances, he's an 8th degree BB
training in these deepstances only and thinking that it's easy to stand up in real life leaves one vulnarable for sweeps
