Whenever I do Victor Nage, as I'm halfway through my roll, my sparring partner drops strait down and mounts me or takes my back. Any ideas how I can prevent this or fix my throw?

I'm somewhat familiar with judo terms, but I don't think I've heard of that. What is Victor nage? Explain the throw, and maybe I can give some advice ![]() Either that or JG, he's more of an authority than I am. Ryu

In victor nage you have your opponent in a side headlock with your near leg between his. You dive roll forward taking him with you the end result being that his leg is in a near perfect position to apply a knee bar. There is another variation where you roll to the side.
I'm not sure, but I think that it's a Shoot wrestling throw (possibly having a Sombo origen?). |

Ah, I know what you are talking about. Yeah, it's from sambo. Well the whole point of that move is surprise. If the guy knows it's coming, you shouldn't try it. Only thing I could advise is to work on tucking your head in and rolling without hesitation. Do the move as much as you can so that it becomes instinctual. If you're throwing it on someone, remember that surprise and experience are probably the major factors of that one. It's a pretty advanced move. I've seen it fail more times then succeed. Good training to you. Ryu
