What is the best way to block an uppercut? If you have both hands up near the center of your face.
Trying to use your elbows to block it - leaves too much room open. Trying to block it with your palm - way too narrow a target and lots of room to miss. There must be a good way? I know it's hard to defend but it can't be impossible? |

all these are nice tips, but ..
once the uppercut is in motion and you dont move your head.. Your gonna get hit.. Ask yourself why you would let someone get so close to even attempt to uppercut you in the first place.

Agree with crazy joe. Move.
Unless someone is just tossing random punches at you, in that case grab their arm(s) and break it(them). Upppercuts _just_ dont happen all of a sudden.

First of all the uppercut is a close quarter punch. The best way to defend/block it would be in my opinion, is to tuck your head in and forearm/elbow at your chest. You can shove him with your forearm to gain space and throw your own uppercut. Watching videos of major fights sure would help, especially if the commentators are first class. Adjustments should be made as the fight progresses. One of the most unusual close quater fighting I saw was Joe Frazier- Jerry Quarry bout. Frazier just let his left arm down to his side all along and won by TKO.

Don't block it- Attack it, and the face.
Thrusting finger's into the elbow and punch the face with the other hand.

You probably would have gotten a better answer in the BOXING FORUMN, IN FACT, I am going to copy and paste this just out of curiosity. No offense intended.
