I would say that you are more likely to get into a fight if you are drunk (especialy people who get bad tempered when under the influence of alcohol). So it is probably worth spending some time thinking about what techniques are useful in such a situation. I have used straight punches, hooks and roundhouse kicks when moderately drunk and teep push kicks when extremely drunk. Hooks are a bad idea as it is easy to injure your wrist or hand during this punch (I myself badly hurt my thumb when I treid this punch while drunk), roundhouse kicks are not a good idea either as you could lose your balance easily, teeps work well especialy if your opponent is drunk (they will most likely fall down). Slow reflexes are also a consideration. Perhaps drinking a bottle of vodka bafore sparring would offer some new insight? Anyone want to give any other examples of moves to do/not do when fighting drunk?

Some should be happy character isn't a requirement to be a member. You should probably take more time to figure out why you have a problem like this and how you can resolve it. If you can't manage your drinking & temper maybe the best technique would be not mixing them.

Actualy I'm not bad tempered when drunk (I'm more of a hyperactive drunk). I get drunk because I am normaly a shy, quiet person but when I get drunk I become more confident and have a lot more fun. I only fight with friends, messing about sort of thing. As I said on friday before I sprained my ankle trying to jump over someone: You can't have fun when you're sober (By You I mean Me). If you can't answer my question don't bother posting. I didn't come here to be insulted.

Well I usualy find that the other children at school are quite happy to insult me... wait, no. I mean I've got lots of friends, I'm not a reject I'm special. Seriously I don't purposly go anywhere to be insulted, especialy not here. So please don't. I just want to discuss martial arts with other practitioners.

Well I didn't mean to hurt feelings and make people whine. I actually had my own demons to work out with about the same issue. The way you worded your post makes it sound like you like to go out and get drunk and start fights. I don't drink too much when in public, but if I was a bit drunk I'd try to stay with very simple straight forward strikes and try to clinch.

OK, here's some "real" advice for you. I'm guessing you're underage (based on your references to being a nerd in school), so I'm sure that you are absolutely convinced that drunken fights aren't your fault, and that they are neccessary. Also, because you're drinking to overcome your inherent shyness and meet people, I'm guessing that you're getting into bars. My advice is this: hit your opponent fast! Don't use slow techniques, because there's going to be several large, sober, not-too-happy bouncers on their way to remove you, and despite all your explaining, they are going to throw you out.
Here are some good defences to use in drunken bar situations "I'm sorry... ...I didn't mean to bump you..." ...I didn't know she was with you (or he, I don't know what kinds of bars you go to)" ...I didn't mean to knock your beer over, I'll buy you a new one." Now, if you're fighting someone who's drunk, the best advice I can give is this: drunks huff and puff because they get too excited. Any way that you can restrict their breathing will put them out fast (even if it's as simple as a "bear-hug"). |

Well finaly some usefull answers (I'm still dissapointed with Darrianation, and cain for that matter. I do not endorse the use of illegal substances). Clinch. Be nice to people. Hit fast before bouncers get you. Thanks. Restrict breathing. Apparantly I was "Amusing" when drunk. I'm glad to have provided amusement, I also put cans of beer around her house so that people wouldnt need to go into the kitchen (it was a party, I wasn't invited but... they weren't cruel enough to send me home). So actualy I helped others. I am a nice person at heart.

Perhaps being happy about myself would bve even more important if what you said was true, that no one else was. But others are happy about me. Why do you feel the need to criticise me? Are YOU happy with yourself? If so why do you say such horrible things to someone who has never done anything to you?

Kengar:
Really, just be nice. Unless you're a complete ass, you should be sorry when you accidentally bump somebody. There are very few reasons to start a fight, and that number should decrease when you're drinking, not increase. Lizard: I'm not going to berate you for what I think is poor wording in a post, but really, if you're getting in more fights in relation to your drinking, you need to slow down. You could be a very skilled fighter, but as I've said before, you are going to meet a bouncer who's not happy, and if he's "old school," he's not just going to remove you, he's going to rough you up on the way out (and if you live somewhere where there are a lot of weapons, that's the least of your worries). It simply isn't worth it. |
