I must say that after watching Tom Erikson x Heath Herring, I consider Erikson as the biggest disappointment in NHB in 2000. Erikson took a vicious knee followed by a roundhouse kick to his rib (close to his armpit) that sent him crashing to the canvas. From there, he must've made half a dozen rookie mistakes before Herring rear naked choked him to submission. Erikson's pure wrestling skills may be outdated for today's pool of NHB fighters.

The sun was in his eyes.. It should have been no time limit! If he hadn't broken his foot he would have won. He didn't lose until he quit.

I was more suprised at who beat him.
When I first heard that Herring defeated Erickson, I was thinking this must be a joke, you got to be kidding me the same Herring that I saw Travis Fulton dominate in Extreme Challenge and Bobby Hoffman pounded on in Superbrawl? Same guy but a different fighter now, training with Yvel in Holland made a big difference and from the picture it looks like he cut alot of weight. Its suprising how much can change in a year and a half in MMA. |

Ronin,
On his feet, Erikson was no match for Herring. Right before he ate the final two blows that floored him, the ref had seperated and stood up the two from a stalemate on the ground (w/ Erikson on top). W/out the referee intervention, Erikson would've lost anyway. He wasn't doing much on the ground. When they were stood up, Herring was pumped and yelling "YEAH!". Then they got into their striking stances, Herring approached Erikson and decked him solidly in the head w/ his knee. That's the shot that did it. Erikson was bloody at that point anyway. Then Herring threw a roundhouse and hit Erikson somewhere under his armpit. Erikson feel to the floor facing down. Herring jumped his back. Erikson, from laying flat on his back, bent his waiste and got on all fours, inviting Herring to put the hooks in which he did. Then Erikson didn't even defend his neck, so Herring choked his a$$.

WOW...
I guess that Dutch Muay Thai training really helped Herring out some! You'd think a veteran like Erikson would have some idea how to deal with that shit though. I suppose ring rust was a factor, but there's still no excuse for taking a drubbing like that from an MMA journeyman like Herring. |
