Thank you Gargoyle, you've just brought new meaning to the term "arm chair quarterback".

A guy on an Iron Lung could see how terrible Lewis' jab was, yet that observation wouldn't imply that the poor bloke could outpunch Lewis.

Stop interfering with my armchair observations, if you please...

Lewis will get knocked out cold one day. You watch. He's sometimes lazy and lethargic in the ring, like he's board. If only Ike Ibebuchi wasn't in the nut house, he could fullfull this prophecy.

Ok Pit first off,my main trainers were Jesse Sandoval who trained MIke COlbert who fought Hagler and Hearns,he also trained former #1 contender for the heavyweight title THad Spencer,Chuck LIncoln was the other main trainer and he trained the Knott St. BOxing Club in the 60's that had 8 of 10 national champions one year. On those teams was a boxer named Ray Lampkin(who Chuck trained as a pro)who fought Roberto Duran in 76 for the lightweight title. Lampkin was ahead on all 3 cards going into the 13th round when he was knocked out. At 16 I moved to Las Vegas with my cousin 1991 147lbs. national champion Pat "Young Guns" Briceno. There I was trained by Roger Mayweather and worked with Cornelius BOza Edwards, Eddie Mustapha Muhammad,Miguel Diaz and Bubba Stotts. I have sparred with ROger Mayweather,Vernon Forrest,Jorge Paez, and David Sample plus more that I cant think of right now. Also was a 2 time region 13 jr. olympic champion,Oregon and Washington golden gloves champion and I have been to the nationals twice.

So how was sparring with Mike Hunter he is one of the most awkward sonuvabitches I have ever seen.

Hunter did that to you and almost everyone else. How about Lopez he was one crazy tough mother****er. I remember seeing him beat Kostya Tszyu on USA and them giving it to Tszyu and thought that is one guy I would hate to fight.

One last thing I feel so honored to get respect from the alpha dog in the Mousel's pack. Thank-you!

Lewis is big and he can punch but I will always remember him punching at Oliver McCall after Oliver had his breakdown in the ring. Oliver was walking around with his hands down and Lewis could not hurt him. Sure Oliver has a great chin, maybe the best ever, but Lewis should have been able to hurt him. McCall has never been off his feet, that includes hundreds of rounds of sparring with Tyson in his prime. BTW, Oliver did lose a decision to the Bounty Hunter a long time ago. He also knocked Lewis out in two.

The best chin in boxing is Ray Mercer. Any pro heavyweight will tell you that.

Colonie, you are right that Mercer has a good chin, but I have seen him dazed. I have never seen McCall in any trouble against anyone. Bert Cooper(the 1989-1991 version) and McCall had some great gym wars. McCall was the only reliable sparring partner for Tyson in the 80s. He was the only one who could take the punishment. McCall is a head case, but ask any HyWt. who has worked with him about his chin. His management told me that if they could get one week of training out of him, he was competitve with anybody in the world, if they could get two good weeks, no one could stay with him. Emmanuel Steward lived with him and made him train before the first Lewis fight and he destroyed Lewis. A super talent that was wasted.

I heard McCall was Tyson's whipping boy in sparring. I heard that before Tyson fought Spinks, he beat the shit outta McCall and at one point body slammed him when he was in a rage. Again, that's what I HEARD, don't know if it's true or not. You also have to remember, McCall has fought no where near the KO punchers or competition that Mercer has. Not even close. Also McCall had wars in sparring with Bert Cooper? Big deal, Bert Cooper sucks. Watch the Cooper-Holyfield fight, Holy was all but KO'ed and Cooper couldn't even finish him off. Holy came back and pummeled Cooper. I agree McCall has a decent chin, but not in Mercers league.

I went to the Cooper-Holyfield fight. Cooper lived near me at the time. Cooper did not train at all for that fight. He was a last minute replacement and when he arrived in Atlanta, he could not jog 1 mile. If he would have been in shape the history of the Hywt. division might be different. Mercer has not fought better opponents than McCall. The only top fighter he fought that McCall hasn't is Holyfield, unless you consider Tommy Morrison to be a top fighter. They both fought Jessie Ferguson, Mercer won one and lost one to him. McCall won his. They both fought Lennox Lewis(McCall won one, lost one, Mercer lost), Francisco Damiani(both won), and Larry Holmes(Mercer lost, McCall won). McCall also fought Mike Hunter, Buster Douglas, Orlin Norris, Frank Bruno, and Bruce Seldon. Cooper was one of Mercer's(Mercer won 12 round decision) toughest fights. Both took and gave a lot of punishment. If you ever get a chance, watch that one. McCall and Cooper were fighters who squandered their opportunity, but both could spoil anybody's day when they were motivated to train.

Cool

Zeke - Don't you think Lewis should have lost that fight against Mercer? I did.

Mercer was great. Is he still around? He must be in his late 30's by now.

SMOKIN' Bert Cooper! What a warrior! It would have been nice to see him & Tyson in the earlier days (maybe just after Coop beat up Canadian Willie DeWit)

Ronnie.

I think Mercer fought once or twice in the last two years. He would be about 39-40 now but he would still be tough. If Cooper would have lived a cleaner life he could have been an excellent fighter as a Hywt. or as a CruiserWt. He and Tyson could have fought in a phone booth, it wouldn't have taken much room for them. I wish Mercer had gotten the decision against Lewis, I'm not a fan of Lewis. I believe he will quit in a fight if someone will just give him the opportunity.
