Default Your opinion on Bas Rutten

Hi people,

the more footage I see of Bas Rutten, the more impressed I am
Why? well not because he is a dutchman but because he is so versatile, I see him change tactics during the fights all the time And his devistating palmheelstrikes

Don't get me wrong, I do not think he is the best fighter but the most versatile and one of the nicest fighters to watch ( or to listen to at Pride)

What's your opinion about Bas?

From what I've seen, he is a very intelligent fighter. He beat Kevin Randleman and Kosaka from the earlier UFCs. I saw part of his match with Frank Shamrock in pride, but did not see the outcome. Randleman was clearly the superior athlete compared to Rutten, while Kosaka dominated most of the match to only get KOd later by Rutten.

Bas is a tough individual, but he's not the toughest... He's had trouble with grapplers, but always finds a way to come back.

I thought Kevin Randleman clearly won the match with Bas. Randleman dominated the entire match and Rutten won the decision even though he had a broken nose and wore a defeated look. In boxing, such a decision is hardly made, except in the course of De La Hoya and Trinidad... The Champion usually retains his belt unless the challenger clearly, without doubt has shown himself the better fighter...

Frank Shamrock fight was Pancrase

Like I said He ain't the toughest dude around but I'm amazed at how he switches from one tactic to another
And how hard the palmheelstrikes of him seem to be (ask Frank)
Especially in his early MMA days he didn't have much groundfighting skills but lateron he did

After he lost to Ken Shamrock as a result of a toehold, he started to train a lot on groundfighting skills

His fights are nice to watch, in reallife totally nonimportant but in MMA wich is both sport and entertainment it is

Other fighters I like for the same reason, even if they do not win are Sakuraba and Genki Sudo ( the latter because he does such strange things and really goes for the entertainment)

I don't like fights that end in the first of 12 rounds (boxing) like those of Tyson, you paid a lot of money to see him fight and it's over within 3 minutes

Did you see the De la hoya / Vargas Fight or Hoost /Mo. Smith? Those were good fights.

Others are clearly less entertaining...Tua/Rahman (Rahman got robbed despite landing more shots), Tyson/Etienne, Tyson/Mcnealy, Tyson/Spinks etc...

Bas Rutten is a great guy.

As a person, he is the life of the party.
There's a great story about him in a bar, drinking up a storm. He was so rowdy that a few of the bouncers decided to ask him to leave. Their mistake was that they tried to teach this obnoxious guy a lesson on the way out the door...

As an instructor, Bas is huge. He gets you up to go beyond yourself. When others will let you quit, he inspires you to keep going, to get that extra step. Not an easy task.

As a fighter, he's a tough guy. Sure, he may not be the toughest but I certainly admire him for his guts.
When I was at Bevely Hills Jiu Jitsu training with him and others, he took a fight in Japan, was injured pretty bad, and still won.

Anyone that says something bad about Bas (besides those bouncers) really don't know him......

SweepEm is right. Bas is definitely the life of a party. He's also a great guy and is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help.

He's also a very, very tough guy. There aren't many people that would come out on top in a 'real' fight with him.

Shure as h**l not the swedish bouncers

btw he wasn't drunk when that hapened but was dancing in House music style, which seems to be forbidden in that place
I would have sued the bouncers socks of (for sticking a finger in the eye a second time)
