(turn on Japanese shift JIS)
Ken/mpo @@@- fist law/way ken/mpo @@@- sword law/way Same pronunciation, different kanji. In kana they are the same: ―ρΫ€. The Japanese themselves can`t agree on the proper transliteration of Japanese into English!

I looked at some of the kenpo techniques and thought that some were quite good. Out of the six combos I looked at, five involved a strike to the groin. There was also plenty of elbows and hits to the throat. But when I looked at the site again I saw that in many of the photos the kenpo guys were keeping there guard down and he wrote something about being enlightened (despite having said he doesn't teach kung fu nonsense such as jumping/kicking/screaming), then he said something which k.o.ed any respect I might have had for him. This was found in his letter to parents: I don't blame you for thinking, "How can karate teach values?" but YES, we have taught karate to kids for over three decades and have nurtured them with character building tools found only in karate, and uniquely found at the Nackord Kenpo Karate System.

I'd like to find out more about these "character building tools" (I think my character needs to be improved a little) What are these tools? How does it improve character? Why is it only found in kenpo? Can these BS-flavoured claims be proved?

Hi New to the forum, looking to broarden by knowlege of the MA . In reference to subject as told above Kempo does mean empty fist and that was the story we were told that the publisher made a typo thus it was to much trouble to correct therfore we get both kenpo and kempo.

VERBAL........
AT THE END OF THE DAY, what in a name?, it's only a name. There are good and bad in all. I have seen bad kickboxing/bjja schools. Not as many as kenpo schools though ! You must go and see for yourself. The name doesnt neccessarily mean the instructor is any good. The problem that I have usually found is that of all the martial/art classes that I have attended, then kenpo/karate/kung fu etc types. Generally (not always) are very "one dimentional". By that I mean they have a 4th dan etc, but have only every really done one type of stlyle. I know there are people on this forum that do karate and cross train and thats fine, but most dont ! So verbal, from my experience, in a fight you be better off using a bit of "verbal" than kenpo ! |

Choke: While I agree that crosstraining striking & grappling is invaluable, we all have to start somewhere. Your comment:

Choke: You don't know me very well. You might want to take a look at my posts on Martialtalk.com or Kenponet. I feel very strongly that the lightbulb must be changed. It must be changed with a brighter and more efficient bulb with less nonsense and dead training. I've argued strongly for that in over 100 posts.
I also feel that everyone has to start somewhere. We don't all have BJJ or Muay Thai schools around the corner the way you and I do. I would never advise anyone to not train just because they only have Kenpo and TKD schools where they live. That is why I suggested that your very clever pun was nonsense or bad advice. I personally have suspended my Kenpo training and am now spending all my training time doing BJJ. In the past, I also studied Shotokan, Aiki Jujitsu, and Escrima. Of all of my past arts, I think that Kenpo has the most to offer. |

Glad to see that you have changed the light bulb. I thought you were still stuck with the gas lamp, but now can see that you have seen the light ! |

Choke: Peace bro. I've changed the light bulb in my own room. Now, trying to convince some Kenpo people that Mr. Ed Parker would have approved of a light-bulb change...
