The best way to learn how to handle street trouble is to go out and find some.

Falcon, you do not train with police officers. Most officers that I've trained with are really nice guys; they don't look for trouble, but their self-defense training works.

I'm still looking for a video of an officer that I saw not long ago on Oprah that took place in the 5th ward (bad part of H-town). A pimp was beating a prostitute in mid day. An off duty police officer tells the pimp to let the lady go (the officer is smaller than the pimp, has his shirt tucked in, looks unthreatening). So the pimp steps up and gets ready to swing at the officer. The officer slips the punch and chops at the base of the pimps neck. Mr. big pimp goes limp and slams onto the ground. You can watch the time go by as the prostitute tries to help the pimp stumble onto his feet; takes him a few minutes to realize where he is.

The police officer is a highly ranked bb and one of the great instructors that I've had the priveldge of learning from.

    cat,
It seems no one has answered your question properly. The only way to learn to use the 2 arts together is to spar them together. Try working with your partner allowing thai techniques with takedowns and submissions. Sparring this way will help you to quickly blend the 2 arts. You could do a couple of rounds thai style and add the takedowns and subs at round 3 etc. There really is no other effective way to learn to blend two different delivery systems that are range based.

    Good for you Ryta.

You obviously do not know police officers very well considering you tell people to 'look for street trouble'.
