I have been a black belt since 1972. Yes, this really does work. Research it more and study it with an open mind, you will be impressed

I think the medical aspects of chi are there, but combat?

I remember hearing about several Chinese going fu masters going to Thailand in the 70's for a demonstration of internal breathing, brick breaking and exhibition matches.

The gong fu fighters got kod pretty quickly as I remember. Thus gong fu adapted muay thai in the last 15 years with some shuai jiao and created 'free fight' gong fu - san shou.

chi helps, I visualize...well lil more than visualize its hard to describe it, doing a move and then when I do it, it's done more smoothly. I always try to use this in my wrestling practices and etc. I also practice punching with ki and I tried it out on my friends many times before. I would tense my punch and then ounch a friends hand. They usually feel little pain nothing more. then I would focus ki into my fist, if you tense ur fist, ki would not flow naturally, and then visualize my punch to his hand and when I hit it, it's more accuarate,a nd my friend feels a tingly feeling of pain spreading over his hand. And when he tries to use that hand again, it's weak for a while. This is because when someone else's ki goes into ur body, the ki in ur own body does not recognize it and it has harmful effect. This is my theory on ki, and I'm serious about this, so i would appreciate if ppl didnt make fun of me for sharing my expereince. My friend's dad trained him since he was a kid in chi/ki, and he's about 5feet but can dunk. So I definately believe in ki, chi...why do you think ppl shout kia and stuff in karate/ taekwondo, it is to get ur ki to go out through ur hand through shouting. I did some ki practices before in TaeKwonDo dojangs in Korea...mostly for meditations and focusing the mind. The reason why it's considered weak is because a lot of ppl who train in ki or chi are not advanced in it. So ppl make judgement upon whole ki based on those practiciners who thinkt hey know shit. try qui gong exercises, trust me, you'll feel ki flowing all throughout ur body. Go to falundafa.org to download qui gong instruction videos in english.

Chi Power and martial arts hocus pocus are better saved for Halloween... They won't save a hair on your ass.

I've trained in Wu Style Tai Chi, Choi Li Fut and TKD which stress Chi, or Ki and have never found any reason to believe in Chi. More likely, Chi is an idea like the "center" that boxers focus upon.

I have also seen demonstrations of Chi, but demonstrations are demonstrations. I once asked a Chi Person to hit me, but he didn't... I'm assuming, he didn't want me to ruin his demonstration. Until these Chi people can withstand punches from people other than their peers or punch people through walls, it remains to be seen if Chi is factual.

However, I would be hard pressed to believe in Chi, because I've never felt it nor have it seen it really work in live-combat, or tournament for that matter. Besides, what good is Chi if you can break a brick but can't take a Muay Thai kick?

LMFAO!!! Chi? Are we really talking about Chi on a MMA & BJJ forum? Anyone who believes in Chi must live in a town with no BJJ schools.

Don't let the charlatans fool you. Chi is martial arts mumbo jumbo for concentrating, not being nervous, keeping your weight low and centered, and executing your movements with focus and commitment.

Just substitute the phrase 'self hypnosis' for the word 'chi'. Yes, you can hypnotize yourself, and you can even hypnotize a few willing students on occasion. But it is very hard to hypnotize an incoming Thai kick.

Chi is good as a breathing excercise, but I can't see it stopping a thai kick - otherwise the outcome of those gong fu guys in the 70s would have been different.

Load of nonsence, dont waste your time with it. Always the same, the TKD Karate guys like CHi and the MT BJJ sensible people are realistic.

Has anyone felt the effects of acupuncture or a good Shiatsu massage?

As an aside, there is a seminar in Boise August 9th. Jimi, Jared and anyone else in the NW can come down and train with the CHI masters.

Not only can they knock you out with pressure points by touching you, NOW they can disrupt your chi from 40' away and knock your ass out!

Didn't Darren Lauer do an article on this subject?

Questions questions......

Personally I'm sure there are things that western science can't explain. But I haven't seen too much real evidence of Chi or Ki helping win a fight.

Perosnally I think the exponents of it are being a little chi-ki.....

Ghost wtf are yout alking about?...You make a general assumption of all the ppl who train in karate or tkd likes ki??...I wrestle, box, and did tkd for few years. And I practice with ki, I can honestry say it improved me in many ways. As long as whatever it is helps urslef progress, whether it be ki or chi it's a good thing. Don't make assumptions or judgements on a topic that you don't know anything about. Try looking for ki sites and how you can apply it, and try it before you talk shit about it.

well, I only say try looking for it cause I learnt it from different ppl personally, if u cant find someone to teach it to you try looking for sites that mgiht help youw ith it. You actually don't need another person to help you with ki training, it's in every one of us, and we use it daily. This is one neat ki trick I learnt from my friend, try holding your arm out in front of you, and with you other hand press the arm down, while that arm is pressing up.
After counting ten let go of the pressure and the hand over the arm and see what happens. Well, it's upto the individual to believe whatever they wanna believe, I don't eblieve shit unless I either see it or experience it, and ki I have experienced it and try to incorporate it into my trainings. It's just my belief and what I think .
