Okay, here's one:

How do you escape from a hammer lock (from standing and ground position)? It's the typical one that cops use to handcuff suspects by locking their arm behind their back.

Thanks

That depends on the hammerlock and how it's applied.

Escaping from a cop is rarely a good idea, on many levels. Cops do not play fair. They gang tackle you and lock you up. You start rasslin' with cops you're in for a world of hurt not to mention legal trouble.

Now if a bouncer locked you up in a hammerlock, depending on how they apply it, you can do several things.

1) You can rotate away from the locked shoulder in conjunction with a nice little elbow strike with your opposite arm.

2) If the hammerlock leaves your arm floating (i.e. not locked in the middle of your upper back) you may be able to roll through it with a forward/shoulder roll. You have to know what you're doing to pull this one off. Plus you have to keep in mind where you're rolling and whether it gets you into a worse situation or not.

3) You can always precede either of the first two with footstomps, shin kicks, or knee kicks. But if you start striking, you've just opened things up for a beat down.

Any bouncer/officer of the law who knows what's up is not going to attempt to take you down without knowing what they are doing and/or having immediate backup.

4) As always, it's best to avoid trouble and stay off the radar screens. Also, be mindful of your flanks and DON'T let someone lock you up.

My shoulders are inflexible and I am very strong. Getting me into a shoulder/hammer lock is easier said than done. However, once I get there, it is extremely painful on me. No one outside the dojo has managed to pull it off yet... (see item # 4 ) and I don't want to go experiment...

But you always say "hurt me hurt me" when we are together.

Anyway, how can you explain these things without pictures. Silly thread.

Thanks for the reply

Well, of course I'm not going to go against a cop. I mentioned the word "cop" so that you'll understand more easily what kind of lock I'm talking about.

Oh... what do you mean by "flanks"?

I understand it's quite hard getting someone's arm behind their back. However, if they can get you into a standing arm bar, for example, then can't they simply push your arm over your shoulder into a hammer lock?

It's not that bad, actually. Szczepankiewicz describes the techniques pretty well.

Okay... here's another one if you don't mind:

How do you escape from an armbar from the ground when you're on your chest?

Default Choke escapes

Make a fist. Stick out middle finger, while keeping it bent at a 90 degree angle. It should make a box. Find friends rib cabe. Rub around ribs while pushing into the ribs. This is a great way to get out of a good choke as it will distract someone for a millisecond for you to get some breathing room. It might not work against experienced grapplers, but have someone get you in a good headlock and try it. You just have to find the spots on their side that hurts. Me and my friends wrestle all the time, and I use a mixture of BJJ and pressure point knowledge to win, lol.

(Not guaranteed to work in self-defense situations, but hella fun if your wrestling. Chi points people!)
