Top of back is the best position for submission. Next to that I would have to say side control because it is a good position for me.

Mine would be the top-rear mount (with me on top of the persons back). I haven't been doing grappling for that long, but so far, I've been most successful with submissions from there.

I need to work on my side mount - I was practicing it last week, and couldn't pin down the guy. Mind you, I'm 5ft 6 and he was over 6 foot. He didn't have any problems pinning me though!

I also find I spend a lot of the time in a guard or half guard, so I'm working on my defences and reversals from there.

What I do in the side mount is get one knee behind the head. The other knee behind the hip. One elbow behind the head and the other at the hip. To force a submission I usually use a forearme choke to get his hands loose. If the guy is struggling alot on your side mount and throwing you try posting your legs out to put more weight on him to wear him down or try going to the scarf position.

I actually don't mind doing submissions from my guard... That is, if my opponent is conentrating too hard on passing my guard, not paying enough attention to what I'm doing.

I've thought about trying a Kamora arm lock from my back, haven't tried it yet. Has anyone else tried this? If so, did it work?

You can do an almost hammer lock from your back while you have the other guy in the guard. Just about the same thing as a kimura. What you do is for example you would shoot your right arm to the inside of his left arms at the elbow and twist over while turning your body to the side and bringing the right leg over the top to hold him in that position. The arm will settle nicely in the hip joint when you shift your body around. This is not a kimura lock but I think it is called ammo plata (not sure about the spelling).

No, the plata is something different. It is a Kimura from the guard, thats all. The omoplata (thats the spelling, my friend) is an attack done from the guard as well, but thats all the similarities to it.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe I've seen a couple guys use that to get out of sticky situations.. never seen 'em win a fight with it, but it stops any onslaughts they just happen to be recieveing.

I checked on it and the spelling I got is Ammo Plato. Same as what I am talking about but you would rotate all the way around with your body and use the leg to hook the arm around. It's just like a hammer lock that you do with you leg from the guard.

Yes, a hammer lock using the leg and body motion from leaning. As for the spelling...I don't know where you are getting it from.
