Default Groin Grab: Fight Stopper or waste of time?

Just want to get everyones opinion.

The other night I was sparring with some guys who do mostly Kickboxing/Karate.
I would lock them up take them to the ground get mount or cross mount etc.
Everytime we would go to the ground they would tell me that i was lucky i was wearing a cup because a groin grab would have ended the fight.

IMHO a groin grab would not stop a fight esp if the person using it was on the bottom...it would prob. just tick me off to start raining strikes down even harder.

What is your opinion?

Next time you train, remove the codpiece and go for shit. They attempt to grab the groin and you respond in kind.

Let me know how it goes...

Up in the air. I think it will really depend on each person. I have been hit in the balls and it was a mere distraction, then I've been grazed and I dropped. I will definitely use it in a fight. If you grab a hold and go for broke you'll get a response, maybe a stopper maybe not.

edited: Nothing is a sure thing, but let them try to rip you balls off and see if you can fight through it.

lmao, In my youth me and a friend use to get board and just start fighting, in one instance I was on top of him and he grabbed the grabs and tried making wine.......HURT LIKE HELL.....so yes I started throwing punches at his head cause i wanted to stop him. Yes I was in pain but I was still concious.

Its not just a grab, its a squeeze and twist or grab and rip or some variation thereof.

If you get hit there and you're full of adrenalin, you might not feel as much pain but any other motions will agonize you in an unmercifull way.

The purpose of such techniques is to cause enough pain to distract your opponent. If he is 100+ pounds heavier, equivallently stronger and is mounting you, groin manipulation might be your only hope of escape.

I have used my gi to perform a wrist lock on a guy 80-90 lbs heavier who had a rear mount and was attempting to choke me with my own gi. The wrist lock was enough to create space, so that I could roll forward and improve position.

*grabbed the grapes and tried to make wine* He was sqeezing... and I was in some unmerciful pain. But just like grabbing a hot stove.....you are not going to just keep your hand there and let it melt, you are going to pull it away and shake the hell out of it or throw it in ice water. All I am saying is you will get a reaction but it might not be the one you anticipated.

Good Responses!

Another ?: Just how easy would it be to "squeeze the grapes" with jeans on?

A strike is one thing....with a grab it would seem that putting the legs together & responding with strikes will keep them from getting ahold of a nut(with you having top position).

I think Kimura mentions in his autobiography that he once grabbed an MP by the testicles and SQUEEZED - apparently, the squeezie passed out from the pain.

Are there some guys out there who can shake off the effects of having their boys crushed and keep on fighting?

Sure.

There are also guys out there who can take an overhand right to the noggin', smile and come back to beat the crap out you. That still doesn't invalidate an overhand right as a viable option.

Nope.

I prefer Tango dancing to getting my boy's squished.

Its not going to be the be all and end all. Like any technique you have to apply it well, and also avoid anything he is doing to you. It is never as easy as "I'll just do this and it will all be over".

But there are lessons for grapplers. The more programmed you get into sports grappling, the more opportunities to groin grab (or eye gouge or bite etc. etc.) you will miss, and the opportunities to do the same you will give to the oponent.

But someone would have to be wearing some fairly loose trousers for you to gte a good grip in the nether regions.

I know 2 guys that got in a fight over some chick. This one guy was dating her, they broke up and the other freind started messing around with her...........To make a long story short a fight broke out. The original boyfreind was much bigger and stronger and quickly dislocated the other guys shoulder. The second boyfreind went down in pain and reached up with the other hand to grab the guys pants (he said it was a last act of desperation to embarass the guy by pulling down his pants in front of everyone). Anywho the guy ends up getting a hand full of scrotum and yanks.........They both went to the hospital that night one with a dislocated shoulder and the other with a scrotom torn wide open..........

Who won the fight???? LOL

i.m.o. biting, gougeing or groin grabs is something of a last resort.life or death situation.
something a woman might do if she was getting raped,(pls dont get offended cakegirl) i know you would just pound him.
anyway if i was to use those tactics to win a fight, i wouldn't feel as though i had won.
the same goes for if someone beats me with those cheap shots, you would want to go again asap, but you might reconsider if you were beaten convincingly into submission.
what i am trying to get to is that it doesnt show who is the better fighter once cheap shots come into it.
