Default BJJ not a style anymore?

Hello,

i've been giving it some thought, and I have started to think that BJJ has really no longer become a style. The reason why I say this is becomes it seems to have become ground fighting, and more specific, the whole ground fighting aspect of fighting.

Nearly all profighters train in Jiujitsu. At first this started to piss me off because there seemed to be no diversity. Than I realized that its because Jujitsu really has the most techniques. Jiujitsu is starting to grow. Its kinda merging with other styles like Sambo, catch wrestling, greco wrestling, and judo.

So to Sum it up jiujitsu seems to have become another word for ground fighting. I know that im gonna get some feed back from this.

Just because you know a few basic movements that share similarities with others doesn't make it a style or not. This idea is kind of silly to me...oh...and uh....GET OFF MY HANDLE!

Interesting, its like the birth of a sport like boxing, (in this case grappling) where each grappler has his own style, attributes and favorite techniques.

Just like in boxing Roy Jones boxes differently than Klitscho and in the sport of grappling Frank Shamrock grapples differently than Dan Severn.

I think I see what you're getting at.

BJJ is a style. It uses a number of different techniques, it doesn't use other techniques.

Example:

BJJ uses armbars

BJJ does not use eye gouges.

Therefore people who do BJJ will use some techniques and not others, they will also have a certain approach to fighting, making it a style.
