![]() | What do you want out of martial arts? Competition? Self defense? Fun? Excersise? You have to tell people what you're looking for before they can give advice.

| Registered User | Honestly I think the best base to have is good ole fashioned wrestling. It gives you a real good balance and eye for openings... Just my opinion but I think having uncles who wrestled and doing wrestling a bit myself helped me when I started BJJ and Grappling.

![]() | Yes, I considered wrestling also. It seems to be pretty hard to find a place that teaches wrestling as it relates to self-defense, though. I could see eventually cross-training in it, however. I would really like to study BJJ someday. However, I think judo has both good stand-up and ground grappling, whereas BJJ seems to excell solely at ground grappling. |

| Registered User | if u want it for self defence primarily i reckon' Ju jitsu, ninpo, or aikido prolly in that order. If u wanted to make more of a thing of competing as well go judo i would think

![]() | Yeah aikid is the shit. Sorry I mean aikido is shit, don't do it for self defense. It may suprise you, but in a real fight people don't run slowly towards you holding their hand above their haed. And sometimes they actualy try to hit you instead of just letting you throw them, it's so unfair.
