    Which art would you choose

    Hey guys
New to the forum. Thinking about adding another martial art style.
.My primary style is white eyebrow kung fu. I am 6'2 and 230lbs, and 35. In good shape. Narrow it down to
    capoeira
goju ryu /shorin ryu( hell of lot of katas/forms)
    bando
dragon kung fu( maybe too similiar to white eyebrow , not sure
any help or advice is greatly appreciated

    Cool handle.

    Excellent B movie.

Are those really your only choices? Each style has advantages and disadvantages. In my limited knowledge of each, none of them are in the top tier for practical application.

Since you already have some stand up (I'm assuming that's what white-eyebrow kung fu is), you need to round off your game with ground techniques...

Go with Brazilian JiuJitsu - in about 6 months to a year, you will be able to handle yourself on the ground, especially well against people with no ground game.

So shasan I suppose you voted for the BJJ option?

    That isn't an option!

Bando better good for self defense

Dragon gong fu might be fun and probably looks good

    Capeoira looks nice

    Karate could also be fun
    Enemies Strengthen,
    Allies weaken.

What can I say, I'm an out of the box thinker.

very well aware that's not an option on the list, but that's my heartfelt recommendation nevertheless. Maybe he hasn't considered it up until now.

of course, depending on what he wants to do, he really should have some ground training no? who DOESN'T want to be a well rounded martial artist?

Decide what you want then go to each of the schools and try a lesson.

    a) does it help you to acheive what you want?
    b) do you like the style/school/instructor?

If you're lucky they will give you a free trial lesson. If you can't afford a lesson then you can always just watch.

Personaly I do MA (martial arts) for enjoyment and excersise so I would probably go for dragon gong fu or possibly even karate (if I liked the way they trained it).

And another thing. Why did I bother to write MA and then explain it? It would have been much easier just to write martial arts in the first place. I suppose for 2 reasons.

    1) I hate to delete things
    2) So you would know what MA meant in the future
    Enemies Strengthen,
    Allies weaken.

    Good question

I want to be a well rounded martial artist.
Ground fighting is a definite consideration.
I thought of capoeira too confuse or catch a opponent off guard.
Bando appears to be very complete and combat oriented( it is one leaning on, plus those guys are very well conditioned. Will check out bjj also
    thanks guys

capoeira is pretty cool to look at. got a buddy doing it . I'll have some links when I get around to ask him. You do have to be well conditioned for a lot of those flips and what not. But yeha for combat oriented from the ones you listed bando is the most feasible.

I thought Bando had lots of grappling in it. It just depends which of the animal systems you are training the most, but its my understanding that they all cover all of the ranges of combat.

    D) none of the above...

I'm not trying to be a wise guy but of those choices, none appeal to me.

I train BJJ solely but if I were to add another MA, I would look at Krav Maga.

i dunno about doing capoera for self defence purposes i dunno how useful it would be in an actual fight when i see ppl training in capoera they always appear to be moving i dunno it seems rather slowly and also it doesn't seem to be actually that effective although i could be wrong, please correct me if i am...
