Like I said before, some places require you to have a licence or permit to have handcuffs. You need to find out what the law is where you live. You also need to find out what the law is with regards to citizens' arrest.
Like I said before - ask the police, legal aid, or a security training firm. They're going to be a lot better equipped to tell you what you need to know. They are a lot more qualified than a bunch of BJJ and MMA fans on the internet! Can you see "I'm sorry your honour, but my friend KungFu75 (who I have never met and whose place of residence I don't know) told me it was OK to tie someone up" working as a defence in court?! You need to get advice from someone qualified to give it! Cakegirl

Just so you know the laws on self defense when being attacked and the use of force are not as clear cut as you think..Most states in The United States the law is simple, you may use only enough force to allow yourself to flee...So basically if you knock the guy down in "Self Defence" No you can't submit him, your supposed to run away.

Sounds like a difficult situation.
What about getting a guard dog or something? I wouldn't want to tresspass on property inhabited by a giant psychopathic canine. Once I was teasing a crazy dog on the other side of a field and behind a fence... it was great fun. Next day the dog was being walked. Started barking at me, couldn't bite because it was wearing a thing (what crazy dogs wear to stop them biting people). Stupid poetic justice. Or if you are evil then the question is: Does anyone know that they are there? If they went missing would anyone be able to say where they went? So I'm not allowed to own a pair of pink, fluffy handuffs? Darn! Back to subject. Think about getting a dog, you might not even have to walk it, let t roam free. You could even get more than one and have a pack. Reminds me of the D-wolves.

Guard dogs would be nice, they have a service here that provide German trained German command dogs, However the trespassers can still make you liable if they get bit.
What a bunch of shit that a trespassers has so many rights. Seems to be the new way to win a lotto buy suing for being a criminal. Drop gun, what's that a bad cop gun that gets planted on a suspect?
