three section staff

Does any one studie the three section staff if so could you tell me what decides the length of each piece and the length of the cord or chain?
or does it make no differance to how it is used.
A friend told me that some of the displays you see are done with bamboo staffs that would be useless for actual fighting and a lot of the moves are not for combat situations just done to make it look good is this true? or does any one no of a good kata on the net that looks good and is effective thank you maureen

Tri Sectional staffs are worthless weapons. They are usually illegal to carry in the United states. Take way too much space to use and pretty much are just pathetic. Anything that looks cool won't work for combat. That goes with Nunchucks too.

Haven't seen too many deaths related to tri sectional staff attacks have you.

I know there are some videos out there that will give you the info your looking for. Might be Panther Productions.

As far as effectiveness, eXcessiveForce is correct. They are a useless weapon. Very easy to defeat (as well as Nunchucks). Look at tape #6, Stick vs Other Weapons, of the first Dog Brothers series. You will see the ease in which they can be beat (full contact, no armor).

If you just want to learn it for the heck of it, more power to you.
