Kimono is Just the jacket, gi is your complete suit so kimono and zubon=trouser (spelling) in Aikido it would also mean the hakama

The weaven and non weaven is a choise of the art itself, if it consists of a lot of grabling they will most likely have a weaven Kimono if more striking based it will be the canvastype material

In the woven kind there is a lot of quality difference, a really good one will be strong but not weigh much a lesser one will feel like a weight on your shoulders

I cant stand Gi's. I did Shotokan Karate about 13 years ago and all I can remember is standing their messing about with the ties on my Gi every 5 minutes.

Thai shorts and a sweat top will do me just nicely

LoL....... in BJJ kimonos and gi's are the same thing, some companies call their uniforms gi's, others call their uniforms kimonos.

What you need to pay attention to is the weave. There's many different kinds like single weave, double weave, gold weave, hybrid weave, and summer weave.

Hehe my instructor had a black gi and only wore it a few times, we asked him why he stopped wearing it. He said "Black gi makes Marcello look like neenja."

The fact that some schools call a gi kimono or the other way around shows they use a japanese word but don't know their meaning Again gi=complete suit, Kimono is just the jacket.
Even the old regular wear ( non sport) which is much longer( like a bathrobe) is called Kimono

Dono if you can get them in your country but Adidas makes nice gi
Lightweight but strong

We didn't tie those, they would teare anyway since we woulld train against grabling attacks
And even then 5 min, man you must take long to tie your laces of your shoes
