More food for thought, perhaps the reason he is stating is not the real reason? I only bring this up because his reason sounds and is sooo silly.
Potential "real" reasons: 1. He does not want to drive you to class. 2. It costs too much. 3. He is pissed you don't help around the house or something like this... 4. He is intimidated by you. 5. He misses you and wants you around more. Only you know for sure. Just random thoughts... |

Thanks for all your answers everyone i think i might try the naging thing first though.... As for the post right above mine, I believe that H.S. wrestling is free so i do'nt see a reason he won't let me do it.

I have faith in you, just keep nagging him and help him clear his ignorance by bringing him to a school and talking with a teacher or something.

I don't think it's ignorance, he used to take judo when he was my age. Ironic i know. I brought out the point that he took judo for 4years and his body is still intact but he just dismissed it. I don't know how much longer i can keep this nagging up, my dignity level drops from 23 to 2 everytime i do. So far the only thing thats lower than me nagging is when I call people gay, don't do it often but it happens.

You know that, i know that. Whether my dad knows that, no clue. This is insane. Internal bleeding from taking falls? Sure it might happen but what are the odds? I could have God

Wait a second, why is this your dad's choice again? You're in high school and he has that sort of power?
I mean drugs and crime and whatever is one thing, but I am having a hard time seeing a dad who regulates your hobbies. My dad didn't, at least. What's next, he gonna say you can't build model airplanes because of the fumes from paint and glue?

I don't know about the internal injuries/bleeding factor, but lots of people in grappling sports get hurt all the time. The older people are more likely to get hurt and slower to heal. High school kids are usually unscathed and get over soreness easily. But overall, besides football, grappling (bjj and wrestling) does come with a high risk of injury, but I don't agree with the part about permanent damage. On every high school football team or wrestling team, there is always SOMEONE who can't compete because they are injured. But with say, tennis, baseball, and soccer, most of the time everyone is ready to play.
If he feels this way about wrestling maybe you could take bjj, if he doesn't know what that is? But if you lose, you lose, you'll have to put your energy into something else without dwelling on this. My parents had all kinds of hangups; they wouldn't let me get a skateboard, wouldn't let me waterski, wouldn't let me play football, but didn't seem to think wrestling was as dangerous as football. |

BJJ - check out that link I posted regarding wrestling injuries. It is odd that if you dad has studied Judo and lets you take BJJ he would have a problem with wrestling. I mean if that is really the only reason. You simply are not going to get thrown like in Judo or JJ, maybe he is confusing folk style/freestyle with Greco Roman. I really think that you should have him speak with the coach maybe the trainer to see what are the common injuries. Again, my experience its the problems associated with dieting wearing plastics in practice and losing5-10lbs of water weight (I think plastics are illegal now in practice). Hey you might get a scholarship for college.

There's got to be another underlying reason he is being stubborn. I'd say you have 3 choices. 1) you do what he says 2) you do what you want to do 3) find a compromise |

Heres the reason why i can'tdo what i want to do. The thing is the parents have to sign a form first before you are allowed to join the team. so "doing it anyway" is out of the question.
