From what I've seen and read of Hapkido and the very little I got to experience it is a solid art. A really good reference for the grappling portion is Hapkido Hoshinsul from Alain Burrese.
I have a surprise for you....the principles that Hapkido uses for joint locks are the exact same principles that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Judo, and other grappling arts use. Big shock, I know.Note of caution: Just like any other art you're going to get different flavors of Hapkido from different regions and instructors.
