What is the counter to the bridge escape from the mount?
Also what isthe counter to the elbow escape from the mount? I know switching positions is an option, but suppose you could capitalize on your opponent's escape to catch him, what moves would you do as he escapes the mount in the manner I described above? |

I presume that bridge escape = oopa?
Alot of times, when someone goes to oopa, you can either ride forward to try and get your knees in his armpits, or either kinda rise up and position yourself for an armlock, kinda leaning to the side and getting ready to swing whichever leg up over their head. Probably best idea is to just ask your instructor and drill a few different things.

A couple ideas. A lot of less experienced people get sloppy if they're bridging to escape the mount and leave themselves open for an armbar during the transition, which should end with them tapping from your guard. I like setting up a triangle from the mount by moving one leg past their shoulders while they are escaping, because there is some deception involved in this and they probably won't see it coming...unless they spar with you every week.
As far as countering the elbow escape, I don't know any specific technique to counter it. But I think it's generally a good idea to keep them busy defending subs and try to mount more on the chest than down by the hips. Keep the mount wrapped tight so they don't have room to work the elbow escape. |
