I'm also in agreement along with Joe and Colonie Crusher. Some people have to work at it and some do not. I like to compare a good punch to a good golf swing. (Teachnique) Once a good punch is thrown your toes are firmly planted to the ground. Next your hips explodes to the direction of the punch. Lastly your shoulders and fist deliver the KO punch.
So technique is important and God given gift is important. Like the Colonie Crusher I found it easy to punch fast and hard , even my first day in the gym. Lastly if you do not believe that punching comes easier to some people look at Kevin Randleman. I know he has not box for a long time but he sure threw a good 123 combo easily in his prefight warm up with Coleman. |

Joe's right. I like the comment about people "apologizing" with their punches--I have seen that quite often.
I can't emphasize this enough, though: your LEGS. Sucking that power up through the ground, through your legs, hips and arm gives you that special something that will blast your opponent. I'm also a big proponent of staying loose until the last second (a big point with Bruce Lee) and then SNAPPING that punch.

I agree with Joe. I think technique and snapping your punches is important but you have to commit to the punch. You have to want to HURT the guy, and not hold back or be afraid of return punches.
So of course I have a big dick as well.

Ober said,
"Joe: I stand corrected!" RESPONSE: You're Goddamned right you stand corrected. Ober said, "In all seriousness, Joe brought up a very valid point IMO; I think the absence of the will to fully commit to a punch is one of the more common hindering factors (outside of having a small penis)." RESPONSE: It is not "one" of the more important factors, nor is it a matter of your "opinion" son. It is a FACT that whether you WANT to hit hard or not is THE most important factor in whether you WILL hit hard or not. Again, you either have a big d!ck when you pull the trigger, or you have a little d!ck, or you have a p*ssy. But the bottom line is if you want to hit like a man, then you have to ACT like a man and slug that motherf*cker like one ... rather than paw at him like a b!tch. Ober said, "However, this is outside the realm of what EJ asked for; it is a psychological, not physiological trait "RESPONSE: EJ asked the question because he is clueless and doesn't know WHAT to ask for. He is looking for some "physical" trait he can work on in the gym. I merely took off his false glasses and gave him some accurate spectacles to see through. And with these spectacles he must look INTO HIMSELF and see whether he has the mentality of a true puncher or not, to answer the question if he'll hit hard or not. A person either has the balls to let it all hang out when he punches or he doesn't. After you decide that issue within yourself, EJ, then proper training and instruction on leverage (not you're physique) will come into play. But if your answer is "no" - you're a safety-first guy - then you will NEVER be a puncher. Yours truly, Joe |

The Colonie Crusher is correct. The power comes from the hips and legs. If you don't turn your hips while you punch you won't get the leverage for an effective strike. I also agree the will to inflict damage is important. However, if you don't punch smartly, and fully commit, you have set yourself up for a damaging counter punch that will make you 5 again.

The Colonie Crusher is correct, you have to have natural punching power.I remember when I was 13 I had to spar with the adults,I use to win most of the matches with a KO.When I was 14 I could out punch guys who have been Boxing and Kickboxing for years and who was in their mid 20s.So I feel that a fighter must be naturally strong to have the super KO power.

Punching power *is* natural, in the sense that you either REALLY want to KO the guy or not, and naturally have the instinctive legerage to pull it off or not (though the latter can be learned). But it is TOTALLY incorrect to believe natural strength has anything to do with it. Powerlifter Paul Anderson (who deadlifted like 1000 lbs and could bench close to 600 lbs) was KO'd in the 60's when he made a boxing debut ... by a man who couldn't put 150 lbs over his head. In fact, Joe frazier couldn't put this over his head either, but in his prime could KO virtually anyone who could. The fact is, ONCE AGAIN people, you gotta be a puncher AT HEART before you will ever be one in deed, regardless of your strength - as some of the skinniest, most frail guys in the world have been KO punchers. Only AFTER your true heart for it is covered does the proper TECHNIQUE come into play. Your strength is irrelevant by comparison to your timing, speed, technique, and commitment. So, yes, a person has to be a natural ... AT HEART ... to be a puncher. And if he has natural leverage, great, but he can also learn the leverage through training. But without the balls to commit 100% to the punch first ... neither strength nor training will ever make a man a knockout puncher out of someone who won't commit. Joe Manco you are truly an asshole. You agreed with eveything I ****ing said but you still had the nerve to call it "half-bullshit".
I said that you are either a natural PUNCHER or not. I didn't say natural WEIGHT LIFTER. I said PUNCHER. Read my list again. In fact size and strength was the LAST thing on my list. You are correct when you say you have to want to kill the guy with every punch to be a KO puncher. Look at Mike Tyson: Bad Intentions every time he throws a ****ing punch. There are always exceptions to the rule (Lennox Lewis). But you have to WANT to hurt the guy to hurt him. By the way Joe, do you think Lewis hits hard? I do.

Well, I don't know how hard he hits but I finally saw that Lewis/Tua fight this past weekend and asked my buddy if Lewis had lost his right hand in a car accident or something.
He asked why and I said "'CAUSE HE NEVER ****ING USES IT"

![]() Is Lewis the exception and do I think he hits hard? No, he;s not the exception, and yes he hits hard ... WHEN HE WANTS TO. When he no longer wants to he hits like a b!tch ... once again proving my point. Has it sunk in now? Yours truly, Joe |

Well Joe your full of shit. When Pernell Whitaker sat down on his punches and committed 100% he didn't KO guys, but according to your logic he would have. Crusher is right. Punchers are born not made. Hell I know guys that want to hit hard, put everything they have in there shots and still cant break an egg. How I look you would never expect me to be able to hurt people I am 6'3 165-178 in shape. Everyone I have fought after the fight comes up to me and tells me I had no clue you hit like that. Is it because it's in my heart to be a puncher? No! It's because its a gift I was given that not alot of people have. I know your going to comeback and insult me and all that shit, but I dont care you are a man with one arguement and after you put that out there you go to name calling. After you open up your own gym and start training fighters you come talk to me. BTW I am now 3-0 as a trainer. Until then SMOOCHES!

I forgot to add this before I went off on my rant on Joe but there are 3 things in boxing you cant teach. Power, speed and a chin. As a trainer I can give you the proper technique, with practice you can learn proper timing but with out the god given ability to punch you will never be able to KO people. The same with speed there are alot of little things you can do,like bringing your arm back as fast as you put it out. But you either have it or you dont. If you could teach speed I would be Roy Jones quick and a world champion. A chin is something you have or dont have either. Some people talk about stocky guys with big necks can take better shots,BS. I am tall and lanky and take a helluva shot. I know quiet a few other tall, skinny guys who take good shots either. That also is one of those genetic things. I hope I have enlightened you all.
