A big d!ck.
The extra weight keeps the man's feet planted on the floor, and the extra hormones give him the groove for better timing and more serious drive thru.
This is also why I have KO power in both hands.

Joe

Natural strength. Big shoulders. Stocky frame. Powerful legs. Accuracy, technique. Etc etc
Speed (not the drug)
Strength
and hitting the right spot
and having big hands helps too.
looseness and coordination

Damn. That explains why I hit like a girl.
I can tell you for a fact from my KO power in the ring and on the street that punching KO power comes from three things:
1) (Most Important)
Natural punching power. Even before I ever boxed, I was busting peoples faces up. You either got it or you don't.
2)
Technique. Turning the hips, follow through, bring the punch back. A fundamentally sound 165 lbs. boxer could realistically punch harder than a 280 lbs. steroid freak.
3)
Size and strength. Height, reach, bulk, weight, muscle and your overall strength (weights, etc.) plays a part in KO power. A small part, but a part.
Also punching power comes from the legs mostly.
95% of all fights may end up going to the ground, but 100% of all fights start standing up.
EJ,
I hope you are reading and taking all of this in so that you don't bitch slap like Patt, when you're in a street fight.
maybe you should trade the Gi in for some 16 oz gloves and head to the ring.
I punched this asshole in the head yesterday. He turned my keyboard off in piano class and kept doing it, so when the teacher looked away I clocked him. It left a big red mark. I wasn't going for the k.o. I think most guys have knock out power with no/mma gloves. Lately, I have been headbutting and spitting on my fellow students rather than punching because it hurts your hand.
The Colonie Crusher, "number 2" is everything. If you are a natural, then you already have "number 2" to a certain extent, while others try to attain it. If you also have "number 3", then it's even better.

In the words of Dr. Michael Yessis, "The comment that you are either athletic or not or either you are fast or you're not has been perpetuated in literature for years." -this is the idea I see so widely presented in antiquated circles of sport training, in this case, boxing. While individual potential will vary, to think one cannot improve his speed, power, and form is absurd. The kinetic chain involved in throwing a punch incorporates movement from virtually the entire body. Power is defined in exercise physiology as the given ability to deliver force at a high rate. Power defined in physics is mass x velocity; both defenitions have applicable use in labeling what constitutes a KO punch. Increasing the power capacity of the muscles in the kinetic chain will inherently increase the velocity at which you can move your given mass, and increase "KO power." Speed is a quality that is highly trainable. So is mass. Then there's technique. I 'spose it'd be defined as using your given attributes in the most efficient manner possible to achieve the desired effect; in this case the efficient transfer of 'mass-motion'(power) to the fist. Technique is highly trainable!
Regarding physical attributes: Fist size, leg/arm girth, etc. etc. -I think there have been fighters of nearly all attribute types throughout history that have possesed 'KO power' Likewise, there have been feather-fisted fighters of all attributes. All in all- an effective punch is composed of a conglomeration of attributes; try to narrow down the subtle characteristics that contribute to such a quality, and you'd end up with a pretty damn long list IMO!
Sweet dreams,

Bullsh!t:
Punching power comes ENTIRELY from two things:
- WANTING to hit hard. All the technique, foot placement, muscle-twitch, etc. isn't worth a f*cking thing if you're a natural born p*ssy and don't commit to the punch 100%. Most people hold back a little when they punch - hoping they don't get hit too. They're apologizing while they punch. Many pros in fact. A true puncher gives 100% commitment to that punch and intends to starch your a$$ with it. WANTING to hit hard and really knock that SOB out is the #1 trait needed to do it.
- After you get over that, proper leverage/technique is all that's required. Big Chest? Thick legs? Obviously you never saw Thomas Hearns punch. Or Ray Robinson. Or even De La Puto. None of that sh!t means a thing. You gotta WANT to punch hard, and learn proper leverage (which meanst feet/hips/torque/shoulder, etc.) and you can do it.
So like I said, have a big d!ck and you'll get the groove. Have a pea-shooter and all your muscles and pretty technique won't mean sh!t, because you won't have the balls to MAKE IT mean sh!t.
Yours truly,
Joe
Joe: I stand corrected!
In all seriousness, Joe brought up a very valid point IMO; I think the absence of the will to fully commit to a punch is one of the more common hindering factors(outside of having a small penis). However, this is outside the realm of what EJ asked for; it is a psychological, not physiological trait
