hiya
i'm new to this forum so whats up. i got a question to all u MMA aficinados out there. ive been looking at purchasing a tape covering MMA, does anyone have any reccomendations? it seems like a lot of tapes out there are associated with bjj, ie grappling--this i dont mind, i just dont want it to be grappling only. i'm looking for something that pretty much covers the whole game of MMA. Some of the mma fighters that i've taking in liking in are frank shamrock, and wanderlei silva ( i know these are well known fighters and all that, i'm just new to all this, so bare with me. i just got to see my first pride fights); both well rounded fighters, who seem to favor the stand up game-- very much like myself-- but has no problem with the ground either. i know frank shamrock has a video series out from century vision. has anyone seen this? http://www.centuryvision.com/ this is the one called learn to fight,, something. i saw another series with frank too i think, so dont confuse it with that one.. it seems like an exellent series, although, theres like 6 vols and 2 additional ones. each one 30 bucks a piece, which adds up to a lot of $$$.. is there anything out there that offers something similar to that, but cheaper? thanks |

i looked up the mario sperry series, and from what i read it seems very much just grabbling related, since he has a bjj background. there was just one tape out of some 10 or 20 that covered stand up fighting. and from the info i read, it seems like he only covered hand skills--no kicking, stomping, elbows, or headbutts, etc..
i gotta look some more, but the shamrock tapes is defenitly a contender. any other suggestions? |

WHere do you live and are you currently studying anything? I don't think that you should learn simply by video. One to One instruction is a must in my book. Videos are good supplements. But, use them as just that and ask your instructor about the specifics. Oh just noticed that you said you are mostly a stand up fighter who can deal on the ground as well. Sounds like, since you are more proficient in the standup you may want to get the grappling tape/book instead. I always like to work on my weaknesses. Not my strengths. That way you will always have your, stand up in your case, original strengths but will then start getting good at the things that you are not as good at.
