Guys,
I just read in rec.martial.arts that a certain Jim Lowe, TKD fighters from Milwaukee
"sparred both Rorion and Royce
and knocked them around like they were nothing. Both Royce and Rorion will admit this"
Have you got news that can confirm this?!?

*poof!*
the only thing I have seen a TKD guy knock around is themselves...

I don't buy it.
Go find the videos of Renzo and Rorion at Chuck Norris's top academy place, where they spar with the top guys, and just dominate them.
alt.binaries.bukakke probably has more accurate info.

Puahahaha... Now, that is the most ridiculous story I've ever heard... And believe me, I've heard many fantastic stories. The idea that anyone would even consider this to be true is idiotic.Originally posted by bartjam

I wouldn't doubt it... I never considered Chuck Norris a top fighter. I've met a lot of amateur fighters who are much better. I can't say the same for the fighters he trains, but nothing about Chuck ever impressed me. He was simply a tactician that excelled in point-fighting.Originally posted by Sean Dempsey

The sage experiences without abstraction,
And accomplishes without action;
He accepts the ebb and flow of things,
Nurtures them, but does not own them,
And lives, but does not dwell.
Chuck Norris is an upstanding member of the community. Humble and serving others... who gives a crap whether he can fight or not!?!?!
I've never heard of or read of him spouting off.
And he's in damn fine shape for being so OLD!

Chuck was a martial arts star, winning many martial arts championships including being a six-time undefeated World Professional MiddleWeight Karate Champion. Chuck was also a renowned teacher in the martial arts. Some of his students were Steve McQueen, Bob Barker, Priscilla Presley and Donnie & Marie Osmond.
From 1964 to 1968, Chuck won many State, National, and International amateur karate titles. In 1968, Chuck fought and won the World Professional MiddleWeight Karate championships by defeating the World's Top Fighters. He held that title until 1974 when he retired undefeated.
In 1968, Chuck was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Fighter of the Year. In 1975, he was inducted as Instructor of the Year and in 1977, Chuck received the honor of Man of the Year.
Chuck is also founder and President of United Fighting Arts Federation with over 2,300 black belts all over the world.
In 1997, Chuck achieved another milestone in his life by being the first man ever in the Western Hemisphere to be awarded an 8th degree Black Belt Grand Master recognition in the Tae Kwon Do system. This was a first in 4,500 years of tradition.

btw, the video of the Gracie's and the Norris students was from like the mid 80's, waaaaay before BJJ was known outside brazil.

Back in the '70's (might have been late '70's/early '80's, but I think they said '70's)Chuck Norris and Bob Wall went to Brazil to "practice" with the Gracies. Chuck did roll with Helio but they were very respectful of eachother. They said that chuck had good base.
Bob Wall a little cocky and was positive that his kicks would keep him from being taken down. Royce was young and asked his Dad in Portuguese "Please Daddy let me spank him?"
But Helio didn't let him.

Cobra I don't know where you got that quote from but TKD is not 4,500 years old. Not even close. Korea was not even unified then. They were maybe just entering the bronze age and discovering agriculture. Nevermind that Tae Kwon Do is about dates back to right after WWII and is of Japanese/Okinawan origin. So, ok, Chuck was the first white guy to get an 8th degree black belt in the 50 years TKD has been around. Well 50 years doesn't exactly leave that much time for white guys to have been around long enough to rack up the higher belts. I know this is off topic and all, but I see something absurd like that and I have to jump on it.
Speaking of which...yeah, Gracie's getting whipped by TKD guys. LMFAO. Right.
heh I got it from chuck norrises page/biography.

Wow..... I didn't know TKD was 4,500 years old......

Isn't Chuck a bjj brown belt with the Machado's? He's probably one of the tougher age 50+ guys around. His show is successful and he had a great fighting and movie career before that. I like the scenes from that Bruce Lee movie where he fights Bruce in the Coloseum.
As for the TKD guy who knocked down Rorion and Royce, it's possible two ways. They took him down and he considers it a 'knockdown'. Or they were just doing stand-up sparring and he got the better of them, since they weren't allowed to grapple. Otherwise, he's full of shi-.
The're Gracies, not supermen. People blab all day long about how everyone worships Bruce Lee, but I see it every day with grapplers/MMA and the Gracies. For all we know the guy was just really good on his feet and got the better of them.
