1. Kazushi Sakuraba- put together an unparalleled string of victories, submission mostly and some domination over many top fighters, including heavier guys including Newton, Belfort, Braga, Tiger White, all those Gracies, and Quinton Jackson.
2. Royce Gracie- won 3 of first 4 UFC's, subbing much much bigger guys like Kimo, Severn, and Shamrock. Held Sak at bay for 90 minutes, something lots of top fighters couldn't do. Would still be a legit contender at his weight. 3. Vanderlei Silva- still in the midst of an unbeaten streak; knocked out so many tough guys I lost count. 4. Randy Couture- won two best at different weight divisions in the UFC. Beat quality opponents that were also very hot at the time, ended the streaks of Belfort, Mo Smith, and finally Tito, despite being 76 years old. 5. Tito Ortiz- didn't lose a match for a long stretch, fighting in the UFC's much contested MW, later light HW, division. Took out contenders regularly and send them back to where they came from. 6. Frank Shamrock- crazy hot fighter until he retired from UFC. Subbed Jackson, pummeled Lober, slammed Zinoviev, subbed Horn, and broke Tito. 7. Mach Sakurai- Shooto star, top LW for at least two years, erased any doubts by knocking out Frank Trigg. He's old now. 8. Pulver, Thomas, and BJ Penn- very awesome smaller guys, pick whoever you like. 9. Dan Severn- was the big man in the UFC many times, 3 time champ, I think. He eventually got outdated but was the man for a while. 10. Mark Coleman- 2 time UFC champ and Pride Grand Prix champ. 'Nuff said. |

Yes, he did get beat by Silva, 3x, not 4. If you take every challenge that comes your way, then you run into problems, like Sak did. Silva is almost 20 pounds more than him and I think Sak is also not as good as he was when he was hot. Unfortunately, Sak competed several times with a total disregard for weight divisions. But don't just dismiss him because of his recent performances, look at the big picture and all his dominating victories against quality opponents.
m7, they're not in any particular order, I should have said that before. |

Sak isn't truly a light heavyweight, he's around 180. And getting beaten by someone like Silva doesn't bring any shame, Silva is probably the top light heavy right now and has been cleaning up for some time. Sak is one of the best pound for pound because of that amazing streak that he went on, which lasted for a couple years.

I don't see Sakuraba in this position.
He lost three times against Silva. Doesn't this mean Silva is better than him? If you want to rank Sak high it should be: 1. Silva 2. Sakuraba Well, this is not my ranking. Randy Couture is the top man here. I know that strikers don't like lhim cos he takes the boyz down and then they are lost. Just keep in mind he made two fights against Rizzo. The first fight - won by Couture by jury decision - was unsatisfying - Randy was close to be knocked out in the second round - the decision in summa was okay I think. What did Randy do? He was himself untasfied with the result and gave Rizzo the chance for a new fight! What happened in this fight? Randy completely overmatched Rizzo and won fast by TKO in the second round. This is what I call a real champion.

As I said before, the list wasn't in any kind of order, just my ten best, pound for pound. Would you not agree that Sakuraba belongs on it for his amazing streak? Conan, Belfort, Newton, Braga, Vernon White, followed by 4 Gracies, and Quinton Jackson. That's pretty damn good.

Id just like to point out silva isnt still in his unbeaten streak.... ever hear of Arona?
Second, wheres Matt Hughes, the most dominant welterweight of all time, or maybe put BJ Penn in there, heck they should both be in there I think, oh and how bout Fedor Emelianko, sure hes a heavyweight, but you have the best pound for pound fighters of all time... you have shamrock in there, and your telling me shamrock is better than Fedor, shamrock in his prime would have got shitrocked by Fedor.... he may not be number 1 pound for pound, but hes probably the best mma fighter ever.... and if you have any heavyweights onthere he should be there first and foremost

I'm a big Genki Sudo fan I think he's probably one of the best fighters out there. He has solid striking skills combined with an awesome ground game. His unorthodox fighting style also makes him fun to watch.

Pride Shockwave fight card is here: http://www.pridefc.com/pride2004/new..._05_1221_a.htm Arona beat Silva, Silva beat Sak, Sak beat Rampage, Rampage beat Arona. So that means that... wait... Who's better? I give up.
