I recently started training in a place where everyone is transmitting pinworm to each other. In case any of you on here are currently going through the same situation at the place you train, here are some suggestions for preventing the spread of pinworm I found in "The American Family Medical Association Medical Guide".
"About two weeks later, a now-mature female worm lays eggs around the individual's anus during the night. This may cause irritation, and if the individual scratches the anus, he or she picks up some eggs on the fingers. Sucking the fingers or eating without washing them thoroughly will then cause reinfection. By contaminating food, drinking glasses, sheets and towels, the individual may pass pinworm on to other individuals." It is very important to avoid scratching your anus and either sucking your fingers afterwards or touching the food of other training partners after scratching your anus. If you see a training partner stick his hand down his shorts and scratch his anus, make sure you ask him if he has pinworm before eating any food that he hands to you. Also, if you see him stick his hands down his shorts, scratch his anus, and start sucking his fingers afterwards, make sure you advise him about the dangers in case he has pinworm. For example, imagine the group is passing around a sandwich and a bowl of popcorn during a recess in training. One guy has spent a considerable portion of the practice reaching down his shorts and scratching his anus, inadvertenly getting feces on his fingernails. Don't ask that guy to run over to the bowl and grab you a handful of popcorn and hand it to you until after you ask him if he has pinworm. |

I have never heard of pinworm but I remember a common problem in wrestling mats is ringworm. I had it only once and it sucked. I couldn't practice for a couple of weeks till it was gone. Besides all that ass scratching would keep me from going to a gym. "Excuse me sir I noticed you scratching your anus. Now before I start sucking on your finger I would like to warn you of a disease called pinworm."

In wrestling we trained in a little room separated from the gym by a closed partition. The temp was set to 80 degrees and we were in there for an hour or more. Puddles of sweat all over. The air stank like ass is was so gross. We could barely do the moves because the sweat made it so hard to apply any holds. We cleaned the mats before and after practice but still had outbreaks of ringworm. We had a problem with the cheerleaders because they would go into the room and practice but not take off their shoes. Damn those cheerleaders.

Reminds me a bit of a Thai Boxing class I used to go to. The instructor specialised in breaking my nose, and there'd be blood and snot everywhere.
I have fond memories of cleaning the floor with my T shirt, as a collection of disgusted young ladies looked on, prior to their aerobics class. He bent it one way, then the other and then, remarkably, knocked it straight again. Thanks Bill! |
