Default First class... opinions wanted

After going to a bjj class with my gf last monday, I decided to go to one here at my school today. I tried it out for free. The teacher seems to be a nice guy. Is is also huge. I think he teaches wrestling at my university, but im not sure. The class consisted of pretty much all guys my age, and one girl. Most of the guys are bigger then me (I am a scrawny 6 foot 2 and 155 pounds). Class went like this.
First, we stretched out. Then, everyone partnered up and we grapled for maybe 5 minutes. We then partnered with another person, went another 5 minutes or so, and then did this one more time (I think, it could have been 4). They had me partner with some more experienced guys so they could help me. I think I did alright at this part. I didnt get anyone to tap out, but for a few of the less experienced guys I could kinda control them when in there guard, or at least for a minute or two. This is thanks to what my gf's teacher tought me monday.
Next, he showed us a move. Then we partnered up and practiced. Then another move, and again partnered up and practiced.
After everyone had the moves down more or less we partnered up again and spared. we went 5 minutes, then 20 push ups. Then another partner, another 5 minutes, and anotehr 20 push ups. We did this 4 times. By the last person, I was dieing. I am so sore now. I heard my neck crack more times tonight then I have in my entire night. my neck is tender, the top of my toes, my fingers right next to the nails, my knees, my shoulders, my elbows, everything. I accidentally gave a guy a bloody lip, and looking at mine its a little cut up too. I hate this rug burn (mat burn?). I had a ton of fun. I can't wait until wednesday, I just hope im not as sore then. Im also not sure how im gona work weight lifting into this b/c I dont wana be tired for class. Oh, apparently friday we do some grapling, but also put on gloves and do some striking. Sounds fun... Anyways, just wondering how this school sounds to you guys. Thanks.

It sounds pretty similar to a BJJ school I trained at for a little while. If you think you're learning stuff, great!

I think I'd also like to get a GI. Any suggestions? I want something that will help protect my knees, not to hot, and most importantly, cheap .

I teach class for beginners at my school and run a community program in my town. It just seems a bit different, but the same at the same time. It will just take time for you to get use to. Rolling isn't something your body is use to so it will get really sore for a while.

As for a gi, well, that's all about the opinion. I myself where a double weave to make it a bit harder on me. It's very heavy and gives you a great work out just practicing moves with it, never mind sparring. Also, it helps you out as well by making it a bit harder to keep hold of my lapel and such.

Really you should do a bit of research and see what you like. See if someone has an extra gi and is willing to let you use it for a few classes.

Sore knees? Either try and get use to it or just use some knee pads.
