Has anyone here had any experience with Sambo? Fedor is a Sambo guy but he never uses any submissions... Come to think of it him and Igor are strickers... Any thoughts/Commets on Sambo?

I have never experienced sambo myself personally but I too have noticed very few submissions from sambo practitioners although I did see it a couple of times. Sambo seems to be more striking oriented.

sambo it kind of like judo but with alot alot of leglocks. ithink the reason you don't see them do a lot of subs in comp. is because positioning and striking seems to dominate the seen these days.

Originally, SAMBO could be divided into two systems Combat sambo @ sport sambo. Combat sambo was designed first. That’s the link to a 1940 KGB manual in combat sambo. Sport sambo is a wrestling like judo, the difference is in rules and submissions are permitted almost on any joint (including rotations, bars, overextension, locks, pinching @ overstretching of ligaments @ tendons) with exception of fingers @ toes (wrists and foot are welcome targets) Chokes are not permitted. Russians who fight in MMA are the champions in sport sambo, and any winner of Russian national sambo championship is a master of submissions. Why they do not use it, no one knows. But did any of them lost by submission?

Now that you mention it I never saw one lose from a submission.

My Judo instructor has done some Sambo but I don't beleive he uses any of the submissions. He mostly just uses the throws, and he's got my with some good ones.

I used to have a Sambo leg lock video but I sold it. It had some pretty cool leg locks in it, several that I didn't learn in 2 years of BJJ.

Rickson is actually quite good at Sambo, I think he's won a few competitions in it as well.

Sambo Wrestling is Best known for Leg Locks.

Oleg Taktarov Used a Few Submissons in The UFC.
Leg Lock agianst Dave Benato in the 2nd fight as well as a Gullitone in there 1st.
