I'd like to add that you need to study history from something other than comic books. ![]()

A year or two ago, there was an article about a ninjitsu instructor in South Africa who disarmed a rifle weilding opponent and turned it against him; unfortunately, the criminal had back up who shot the ninjitsu guy.

Okay... more idiots have invaded the forum. Time to set 'em straight.
thesnake: Getting on here and starting an argument about a subject you seem to know nothing about is not the way to make friends. Not wise at all. First of all, it's obvious that the ninja existed. None of us debate that. Secondly, most of us know that they didn't use magic. If they did use magic, the same could be said, then, of Navy SEALs or anyone who has the skill to be 'invisible'. It's not magic, it's training and skill. The ninja and the samurai were both classes of warriors, and not all ninja were assassins. Many were great warriors on the open battlefield. One was a thief. Remember that the history of the ninja was written by the government of Japan (the government typically holds the ability to write history). The ninja were a sort of counter-culture, one that arose out of a simple need to survive. Please, do some research, and maybe take an English class. So many keyboard ninjas, so little time... By the way, I'm not a ninja. Later. |

My snips regarding history was intended to generate some serious discussion. Don't see anything wrong with your disagreeing with anything I've said and I appologize if anything personally offended you as I seem to have struck a nerve. But, just try to overlook this old Tengu with the wrinkled feet and tell us something true about the subject of the title. If you still are not finished with the useless insults, you're welcomed to PM me if it will help vent your frustrations. I'd even go a post on titles of some of the "real history books" you've studied. |

I remain entirely unconvinced of that.

So this was your way of answering the last Post? Lets move on.
Reviewing the thread thus far, a couple of very interesting questions/statements were made. So, instead of calling theSnake an idiot and myself as being a moron, help us out with intellectual answers to the following: Shaolin Bushido: I think in the final analysis the fact that Ninpo is not accepted as koryo by the Japanese and Okinawan Martial Arts establishment sorta hints at how they regard the "art". WildWest.: What the hell is a "real Ninja" anyway?? Great question, but I don't think a rational answer is forthcomming. Don't even try answering this one Shiteuke: One thing you forgot to add snake,,,Ninja WERE Samauri,,,, they were Samauri of a fallen Shogun whos only goal in life from that point on was avenging their Shoguns death,,,get educated or get lost! (so, the Ninja originated from within the ranks of the Samurai and never existed anywhere or at any time outside the ranks of the Samurai ? Interesting) sojobow: What was the function of a Female Ninja? P/S. If it is a fact that there were/are Ninja of the female gender, how does this go to the arguement that Ninja were Samurai (unless one believes that there were/are female Samurai) ? |

There is a reason why any thread with the words "ninja" or "samurai" in the title has a 90% chance of being mind-numbingly stupid.

Here ya go. Here is a brief, easy to read book where you can start to actually learn about the topic. Then we can have an actual conversation some day.
Ninja AD 1460-1650 by Stephen Turnbull, Wayne Reynolds
