there are different ways of doing it i.m.o.
If you overpower someone, get them to the ground, get the mount and proceed to rain punches, elbows, headbutts then stomp his face with your heel when you get off him, no judge in the world is going to believe that it was self defense.

Then again if you were to "accidentally" pick someone up as they rushed you, "accidentally" drop them on their head and "accidentally"drop a knee on their throat as he "pulled" you down ontop of him, the judge might see things a little differently.

Just a little common sense i think
