Default Computer Enthusiasts...

For anyone out there looking to upgrade their comp, I'd recommend going with the NEW AMD Athlon 64 3200 or the AMD Athlon 64 FX with the ASUS K8V Deluxe Motherboard. I just built a 3200 system and it is incredible! It actually only runs a 2.0 GHz, but it still outperforms the Intel P4 3.4 GHz, I guess it's the the 64 bit architecture. Anyway, it's a freggin' awesome combo and I'd recommend it to anyone!

shouldn't it run at 2.2 GHz?
11x200 MHz?

Do you already have the 64 bits OS?

The FX runs at 2.2, the Athlon 64 runs at 2.0; I have the Athlon 64 3200...I don't have a 64bit OS yet, I'm still waiting on XP 64 bit so I cannot fully utilize the technology, but aside from that the processor is incredible...1 Meg of L2 cache! For gaming it is great. The benchmarks show it outperforming the P4 3.4 on nearly all games but Quake III. It's cold and quiet (is that right?) technology is cool too; the CPU speeds up and slows down according to the workload.

If you can afford the FX, go for it. It's got 3MB L3 cache. Not even the new P4 EE -- Intel's comeback for the Athlon 64 -- will have that. I don't have any motherboard recommendations for that though. The FX runs about $800-900 US

For the Athlon 64 3200 I would recommend getting the
ASUS K8V Deluxe. I have heard great things about it, and the combination of my Athlon 64 and my ASUS K8V Deluxe has been running flawlessly. The Athlon 64 3200 runs $400-500 USD and the ASUS K8V Deluxe runs about $160-180 USD--a great price.Installation of the processor is easier than the old models of AMD. One thing to remember, if you do your own installation. There is 4 pin power supply--not in the standard 1x4 setup (long) but in 2x2 and is square in shape-- along with the 20 pin ATX powersupply that seems as if it just sits around for no reason. You have to connect both the 20 pin and the 4 pin power cords in order for the processor to run correctly. Otherwise there is not enough power. I origninally installed the MB and processor not knowing this, and thought I got a faulty product and I would have to RMA a brand new processor. 400+ Watt power supply should be plenty.

If any of you get this setup, I hope your as stoked with it as I am.
