Default Ugly Mug competition

Dear all,

Please check the link for the USA finals of the Ugly Mug Competition. The standard is very high this year, and I feel my position as world champion is under serious threat.

http://www.themartialist.com/0104/010204.htm

A particularly strong candidate is candidate number 1. His hobbies include helping handicapped children and campaigning for world peace. "A terrified society is a polite society" is his favourite mantra, with "Wing Chun works, honest it does, please believe me, please, I've paid a whole years subscriptions and I feel pretty daft now, please tell me it works, please" coming a close second.

He wants to win so much he had a quick haircut, reduced the thickness of his glasses, and entered again. Now that is enthusiasm!

He then clipped off all his hair with his super rip em up let God sort em out clippers, had his specs surgically removed, and entered a THIRD time! Outstanding commitment!

Candidate number 4 was found wandering about outside a candy store, having lost his mum, and number 5 is some WWE groupie. Number 6 is, of course, Humpty Dumpty. His entrance will not be accepted, as even all the Kings Horse and all the Kings men could not put him together again.

The excitement is mounting and, of course, the USA candidates are a grunting. Oink Oink. Bring it on boys. I'm not beaten yet.

Default A warning

There's a type of individual; not particularly athletic, somewhat socially awkward, and distinctively unattractive, who will go through his childhood and adolescence being picked on and ridiculed by others. They usually become antisocial outcasts, seek refuge in the pursuit of solitary endeavors such as miscellaneous academics, particularly computer sciences. Sometimes, out of desperation, these shy, timid, reclusive, normally non-violent individuals take up the study of martial arts as a way of compensating for their shortcomings. Then one day, drunk with the empowerment of what they have learned, they become a danger.

All those individuals seem to fit this profile. Keep an eye on that Danny Rowell character. He seems ready, to snap at any time...

.

I once ran a mile in 35 minutes and bench pressed the bar, can't muster the courage to ask out the mannequin at Sears and wear a t-shirt that says "I'm with Stupid."

Well, ok, I've asked the mannequin out today, but I am waiting for her answer.

Phew...for a second there, I thought you were going to say physics.

There's nothing wrong with solving systems of linear equations with various operators or perhaps determining if a given function is a solution to a differential equation and then applying this to Newton's various laws to determine kinetics of particle-like masses in the reference frame defined by cartesian coordinates or polar coordinates for that matter.

But why focus on the particle alone, when you can derive the field and approximate geometry of the field acting on it? I like it when I'm given a field density at a particular region, that's a great starting point.

Calculating the field, with a given a 'strip' of field density (or determining that density in the first place!), we might get a wonderfull integral that can't be solved by the chain rule, improper fractions, by parts or by substituting from well known, simplified triginometric identities and you have to bust out the power series to approximate the integral. Sure, its an approximation but that's the best we can do without using higher level math to disprove the power series...

We can't assume that all of the energy transferred to this particle results in mechanical phenomenon at the macro level. What about heat transfer?

This physics stuff is useless anyways , I can't imagine any applications to things like virus behavior, portfolios of fluctuating financial assets or the manufacture of crystals or operations of satelite systems...

Mmmm! deep fried oreos!
