Fist Karate Beats Bank Robber

I just found this news. I think it says something positive about Karate (though I don't know the style).....what does everyone think?

I dont see your point.

I think your logic goes like this:

"I beat someone in a game of soccer today. I do aikido. Therefore AIkido is good"

The reason he could stop that guy was because he's big, fast and because he didnt hesitate to what he beleived was the right thing. I doubt any of those attributes are due to karate.

I don't see YOUR point...I did not present some false logic. I just provided a link and indicated that this 4th Dan relates his success to Karate. If it is confident, and being in shape well those are attributes that can be associated with Karate and hard training (or another style and hard training)

If the article sated AIKIDOKA stops bank robber I would have provided the link as wiell just for information. Lighten up man.

" "It was just adrenaline," said Ravage, who holds a fourth-degree black belt as well as
degrees in English literature and philosophy."

There you have it. Degrees in English Literature and Philosophy are the way to train for fighting prowess...... Haw haw haw!

Just joking. He's a big guy with a big bag of courage. I didn't see any martial arts skils in evidence in the reports, but I don't care. He has it where it matters most - in the heart.

"One of my co-workers just said, 'That guy just robbed us.' And I started running. I didn't even think about it," said bank manager-turned-crime buster Marc Ravage, 36."

Doesn't sound like the smartest boy in the classroom, does he?

English literature - Learn to persuade people not to attack you
Philosophy - Confuse them with incredible concepts

Doesnt sound stupid to me...

if we learn to read through thi bri's sarcasm (it takes a degree of effort but i appeciate it now) there's meaning to be had.

yes its the heart where it counts.

this is an exageration but teach a con some karate exposed in his environment and take him through blackbelt and he'd be better than some guy training in BJJ if he's afraid to see blood. why? he'd definitley know which techniques are useful and which are not. you've shown him a new way to do things.

I'm not a karate guy myself but it's not the art its the artist. some arts are easier to learn and apply but some talents can turn crap into gold. Small circle jujitsu used to be a constant loser vs. judo until Wally Learned from his expereince. he didn't look for better techniques just better application

that's just the way it is.

You're all prattling on about "styles" while the significant point of the story is that a very stupid, very lucky idiot chased a bank robber and caught him after the guy had already left the bank building.

Why did he do this? Was the robber at that point endangering human life? No, the story doesn't indicate so.

Could the bank robber have been armed with a gun? In NYC? Very likely. And very likely willing to use his gun if he had to.

Does any style of martial arts beat bullets?
Since the hand is faster than the foot and the hand is faster than the eye, is the hand faster than the bullet?

Karate man did a very stupid thing and got away unscathed - this time. And now, basking in the glow of an adoring, admiring public he'll start thinking it wasn't just dumb luck, it was karate. God help him!

Convinced????

Thats a bit brief. Is there any verification that a Small Cuircle student has taken any scalps in the Judo world?
